Ive been wanting a security camera to install in my car for awhile now, but there is a lot out there and I am wanting it to do specific things:

Auto on with car start up
Record both forward and rear at the same time
Motion sensing so it begins to record for a few mins even if the car is off
Wide andle lens or view in 4 directions at once

I basically want to be able to capture any incident that may happen to damage my mustang, expecially because of where I have to park all the time, with the constant fear of someone opening their door onto my mustang and dinging it.

Does anyone know of a good car security camera that would work for this?

That seems like it should work, but I worry about the memory being too small.

Also, would it be possible to tap into the map light power and still have safe constant power, even when the car is off? That would be easier than running the wire all the way to the fuse box.

The memory overwrites and 16g is good for days. You can go up to either 128 or 256g (256 I believe), it's just a micro sd card.

You could tap there, but it will never turn off. Running through the headliner and down the a-pillar is SUPER easy. You'll spend more time installing the wire tap.

Alright, I'll see how that goes. Thank you!

I wouldn't focus much on the door dings. My experience has been even if you are in the car and someone swings their car door into your car leaving a ding, nobody will do anything about it. The $$ isn't worth it. You never know though, it could be someone pulling into a spot and hitting the side of your car. I've learned this isn't always going to work but I park as far away as possible. I need the exercise anyway. I look at these off and on and pretty much end up looking at this same one mentioned.

I always park far away at work and at stores, but at my apartment complex; its impossible to not be beside someone. On the other hand, at least I know the people who always park beside me everyday if anything happens.

That's cool, then you can always hope they will just do the right thing and pay for it.

The thing about micro sd cards, is that they fail after a while due to the constant writing. So keep that in mind if you're buying expensive large micro sd. 32gb or 64gb is plenty. Check your cards on a weekly basis to make sure they're actually recording.

They also make high endurance sd cards for this particular application. The card I got in my dashcam right now has already lasted longer than my non endurance one, so it's doing something right.

The Blackvue announces when it switches from parking mode to normal mode; that's my tell that it's still working. In three years I've never had a card fail; just stop writing and need a format every few months. The endurance/high temp cards are a must.
