I was researching wheel lock lug nuts. I had ruled out McGard early on BUT noticed some strange things.
When doing search by vehicle, none of the locking lug sets with or without matching 16 matching non-locking lug nuts have bulge in their descriptions even when the factory and most aftermarket wheels require the extra contact area of bulge.
While I had ruled out McGard as being too easy to defeat one per wheel, I considered if 5 per wheel might be a significantly bigger deterrent. I noticed McGard sold some sets with 5 locks (one for externally mounted spare). So, I asked McGard support if I could buy 4 sets of those and put a full set on each road wheel.
They went nuts (no pun intended), warning that doing that would void their and likely wheel warranties. I had the impression they may have added me to some watch list. LoL
Any explanation for any of that?
Only thing I can think of that doesn't really make a lot of sense is that they may not make any locking lug nuts with a bulge seat and are assuming if the other studs have bulge nuts on them, the wheels would not be compromised by less contact area on just one (the lock).
