The Missus and I bought a new house, new construction, in 2019. July 2020 was one year we've been here. With that, we went through the normal one year warranty process.
During the warranty process, we expressed to the builder and warranty company, the sheer volume of sitting water around the house (this was raised within weeks of us moving in, too). They have presented every possible argument, to simply not work on the issue.
On the left side of our house (facing it), the soil is eroding. Along with sitting water in certain places. Again, we have pressed the builder to solve this; to no avail.
With us failing to have the builder or the warranty company build a retaining wall, we went ahead and obtained a contractor to perform this feat. Merely trying to protect our investment.
Let me tell you, we should have never signed a contract with 'A1 Tree Service and Landscaping' in Woodstock, Georgia. NEVER!?!
To list all the things that A1 Tree Service and Landscaping did wrong, would take ages, and in all honesty, it would simply be rather painful to type. However, in short, they:
- Took our deposit
- Waited 6 six weeks to start the job. We phoned them often for updates and scheduling times; excuse after excuse
- Worked on the job for one day (6 hours to be exact), left saying they would be back the following day (showed up 3 days later, no reasoning on why they did not show up; and they ignored our phone calls)
- Eventually, we called every phone number listed for the business, to contact the owner (family business, Dad is trying to pass the business onto the sons)
- The owner promised to have a crew out on Tuesday to work on the retaining wall, through to completion
- They showed up, and did so again, yesterday 12th August 2020.
- While here on 12th August, they wanted the balance paid; this is despite the job not being completed (the fence was to be moved, along with installing plants along the edge of the retaining wall; original plants were destroyed by them, during the demo of that area)
- Due to their poor delivery of a service, we declined. In addition, I reminded them what was in the contract, "Deposit of $2000 due, and balance due upon completion..."
- The older brother, the 'Salesman' said, "Oh, you don't have to pay me, I will simply out a Lien on your house'. We were speechless.
Oh, we also now have a broken sprinkler head. Thus, cannot run the sprinkler system, to water that new sod that was installed, till that is fixed. I will be off to Home Depot/Lowes, in the morning.
The drainage they installed was not closed off on one end. I guess I will need to do this myself now. Lastly, when they dumped soil off, they have virtually killed the grass at the front of the house (left side). We asked them to replace that area with sod. Well, I am sure you can guess correctly if they did it or not...
TLDR:
Do not hire 'A1 Tree Service and Landscaping of Woodstock, Georgia. You're simply asking for your time to be wasted and headaches. STAY AWAY!?!.
