you don't need to worry - you will pay the price shown on your order form as you are "protected" by the Ford price promise. it is stated clearly on the price list.

The price promise specifically excludes any changes in VED though!
He knows that already. He's keeping an eye on the Mustang prices as the list price of the car (minus the road tax and delivery charges) on April 1st 2017 determines the VED he will have to pay.

DVLA call center lady, said that TAX would be based on the cost of the car at time of registration but asked me to email in for confirmation. Damn the price increases last year :headbonk:

Yeah.

If I want to own a 'stang, I must be prepared to pay for it (I am)

However if I can manage to pay less tax in Year 2 and on, then the money "saved" can be put towards upgrades and more importantly FUEL

So a reply from the DVLA:

The vehicle tax rate will be dependent on the figure provided by the dealer at the point of first registration.

If we are provided with the list price, the vehicle tax will be based on that figure. Alternatively, if we are provided with the revised price - being the price of the vehicle the day before it is registered - the vehicle tax will be calculated from that figure.
In my original email the "list" price was what it was in July 2016, the "revised" price is the cost of it now.

So if I read that correctly, it's down to what the dealer puts on the form, so there could be "wiggle room"

ÂŁ39,999 would I'm sure set off alarm bells, and I have no desire for a visit from the DVLA or HMRC, but if they put the cost down that was listed last year, I recon it (along with the order from) would pass muster.

As SteveS says, it's vague and if I'm honest, not the answer I was expecting from the DVLA!

Not too much of an issue with Mustang as currently no deals to be had, but if they use anything other than an official list price (base+options) then it opens a whole new can of worms. Could someone who negotiates a great deal reduce the taxation for the life of the car? That couldn't happen...could it? :D

Interesting one. It is ambiguous, is it list price from date of order or on date of registration???
Id try and argue that it is from date of order as that's the price you are paying. As long as have correspondence to back it up etc.
