Is there somthing wrong with my shifter?

I have noticed that when I get in my car after it has been parked for a while (usually 12 hrs or so) it has poped out of gear. At first I thought I was going crazy but today my wife confirmed that I had left it in gear and it wasn't when I got in. Also occasionally I have a hard time getting it back in first when setting at a light or somthing. Ussualy just take it back to neutral and it will go on into gear. Sorry if this has been talked about I searched and couldn't find anything.
