I've git the iOS 10 Developer Preview installed on my iPhone 6 Plus, and today I noticed something new, and a welcome improvement!
In the past, the caveat for using AppLink in Sync 3 with iOS is that 1) The phone must be connected via USB; and 2) The application must be running on the active screen not he phone.
This was irksome, as you had no intuitive way of knowing which apps actually supported AppLink, and there was no easy way to switch to or between them without looking at your phone. Android users didn't have this limitation as the AppLink apps simply all populated on the screen (I'm unsure if the USB connection was a requirement, though).
It seems this was an iOS limitation, as the iOS 10 Preview enables the apps to populate on the Apps screen as well as the Audio Sources screen! Finally!
I'm not worried about the USB connection, it's understandable and a good idea to keep your phone charged, and allows better data response and audio quality.
