I went NRMA (were not the cheapest) but when i mentioned mods they were fine with it and i like the fact that they have new for old for 2 years (hope never to use it and if i ever do that there is finally stock on hand) and choice of repairer. i think the premium when comparable comes down to how good they are at paying up or getting things repaired. Not that i have used them i a long time but i never had problems in the past. also budget who was my last insurer didnt want to touch Captain Risky

I used to be with Shannons and now i swaped it over to Famous as they cover more for less and also do track cover. :)

So is there any known insurer's that do provide the cover even with mods? Or does everyone take a risk and hope for the best?
I have RAA insurance here in Adelaide...unlimited years new car replacement, no problems with mods...just tell them what they are. I have the exhaust, window tint, badging listed. $500 excess...$950 a year premium, unlimited windscreen replacement, free rental car, choice of repairer.
However, the policy is getting close to renewal....it will be interesting to see what they throw up this year.

I'm under 25, went with shannons because I had a friend who works there. Got quoted 2040 per year. RAA sounding pretty good at the moment!

Also, would you happen to park your car a lot on Hutt Street??

Last time I mentioned who I got insurance with I got flamed but I did go with Coles 530.00 with 600 excess. I have just got the renewal and it is the same as before. My 2 cents.

Hi Everyone,

Called Budget today to check what it would cost me to add another car to my policy. They couldn't tell me exactly as it hasn't been built yet. Anyway, got a quote of $2,300.

However, when asked about modifications I said exhaust and was told that if I replace it, they will not cover it?

Is this standard or just Budget?

Thanks
They consider you Captain Risky due to MODS

Suncorp, GIO, NRMA, Shannons all ok with mods and also offer decent agreed value i guess.
Sometimes cheapest is not the best. You only realize that when you lodge a claim.
Your age, claim history and address are also the factors that affect the premium on your insurance.
Try getting quotes from a few companies and compare. It wouldn't hurt to get through the dealer as well.
I was surprised when dealer offered me better policy than what was quoted online by the same company.
I guess its not about what is best company, its all about what is best for you.

Except if they can't replace the car within their timeframe...just car was 90 days

I have Just Car, but got the letter to say they're shutting down :( I guess AAMI decided they weren't making enough money from that project.

Not sure what I'll do, will wait for the AAMI renewal quote but expecting a massive increase. Might have to try Shannons

CBF_Deeb, ours lives in the garage under a cover....only comes out to play for cruises and occasional trips......would be too terrified to leave it parked anywhere without supervision....let alone on Hutt street with all those bicycle fascists.

To be honest the price you have for Shannons is not too bad for under 25. We have a couple of policies with RAA and I am of the older demographic, which helps a fair bit.

Totally with you on the unlimited new car replacement msweet.....there would be get out clauses everywhere. Also, any new car is going to be much more expensive in say ten years time, so they will play the market value card. The whole thing is a load of marketing garbage in my mind.

Interestingly, InsureMyRide, the motorbike insurance company is closing down also. They are recommending Shannons, which is part of the same group, Suncorp. Sounds like some rationalization of the insurance mess is going on.

Heads up..............

If anyone is with an AMMI policy purchased from June onwards recheck your policy on the quote system / internet.

I did this over Christmas and found out I was over charged. Originally the system only allowed me to insure the car to a maximum of 60K and I had to pay a bigger excess. Over Christmas I redid the online quote and found out that I could insure over $70K with the normal excess. All this cheaper than my original policy. I rang them and enquired and received a refund for the online clitch. This was for $5K more cover (Car value) than previous and a reduced excess, cheaper than what I first paid.

Do yourself a favour and redo the online quote, if in doubt, ring them. In the end they were most helpful.

I just got my car and went with Shannons as they are just easy to deal with on performance cars and not a lot of difference to NRMA when I got quotes. Got a quote for extreme limited use, 1 to 2 days a month at just over $800 a year and for 1 to 2 times a week at just over $1,000 a year and 650 excess. 1 to 2 times a week it had to be I couldn't leave it sitting around that much. I'm 54 and in the Blue Mountains area outside Sydney so insurance prices are pretty good there.

Anyone have any experience with Wawanesa? Currently paying 1800 with State Farm every 6 months. Wawanesa quoted me a little over 800 every 6 months with even more coverage, making my savings close to 1000. Which also throws me off a little bit because it sounds too good to be true.

Yet, out here in LA - I've heard PLENTY of good things about Wawanesa. Online reviews though are a different story :/.

Dang, you're right! I just did a general search for insurance and this was the first thread. Did not stop to look at country.

Well hello from California!
