They do but when you add the A la carte system you negate any cost saving with packages. Look asset a fully loaded 2SS 1LE they tip in at 48k due to allowing choices. No thanks.

I wasnt recommending doing away with the packages. I was recommending keeping the currently available packages and then having more add on options to those packages. What I am referencing is the following:

I want a GT PP premium package for 42k
I want add on colored seat belts for 1k
I want upgraded rims and tires for 3k
I want Matte black paint for 2k

Total cost 48k for package plus options...

For those that want the typical option package can have a GT PP premium for 42k. For those that want the typical option package plus customization can pay 42k plus any add ons they want. As it stands now Ford is basically giving all of this money away to the aftermarket.

With the option above Ford and the customer wins. Im assuming its a pain for them and thats why the dont do it. I just cant imagine in these hard times they want to leave any dollars on the table. I dont see what Ford loses out on especially if they have the dealership do 90% of the customization.

Definitely a bit of a stretch at this time.

Porsche, now they have something that's infinitely customizable.

The Mustang, not so much.

Maybe in a year or two when they start offering stripe packages and such, but right now I agree that the choices are a bit limited and overly packaged. But, the packages aren't too bad, considering what you get.

I agree about the Porsche statement, as long as your bank account is Infinite too! Unfortunately, mine's not! :(

The nice thing is that the aftermarket for the Mustang will make it Infinite though! I can't believe all of the mods/parts that are available for the Stangs!

That's how these will end up because that the way the Camaro's were too. There were parts available before the car even came out.

buy an LE - only two options, easy to decide...

Seriously though, that's one of the reasons I went with the LE. Too many differnet ways to configure a mustang already. I knew if I picked one option over another I'd regret it. so it was a welcome relief to let Mama Ford decide what options I should have...

I cross shopped a Cayman with the Mustang, but the options are just... ludicrous.

A base Cayman costs $52,600.00. A base Cayman optioned the way I'd want it costs $127.070.00. I thought it would be impossible to have the options on a car cost more than the car itself, but, nope -- especially when some of the options, like the interior leather package and the carbon ceramic breaks, cost seven or eight grand a pop.

My configuration, if anybody's interested: http://www.porsche-code.com/PFDMY4G2
