Hi,

When I nogotiated my car on order the salesman noted that I’d get any current incentives from Ford at the time of delivery. I thought little of this as I was preordering a new model and didn’t expect anything. However, I just noticed for has an offer of $500 cash back on Premium GTs, like mine. I read the small print and it’s on “dealer stock”. I am correct in thinking that I’m ineligible then, as a retail order?

Have any of you who have preordered managed to get any FCA promotional incentive deals beyond your originally negotiated price?

Thanks.

I've gotten the current rebate on all my special order Mustangs even though the fine print always said "dealer stock". Therefore I assume even a special order car is "dealer stock" at the time of sale. It certainly will become dealer stock if you don't buy it. It was not dealer stock when you ordered the car . . . obviously. I have no idea what happens with cars that "your dealer" has to get from a different dealer but that doesn't apply to special orders.

I've gotten current rebates both on special order cars and cars obtained from other dealers. I think once they have it, it's "in stock." I think the only thing they're excluding with that language is you collecting a rebate from the time when you ordered. So they're just preventing you from collecting rebates in effect at the time of the order that expire before delivery. But I've also seen people claim that they got their rebates "locked in". I suspect the dealer is really just prepared to cover that amount if the rebate goes away.

BINGO!!!

Custom order or not--it is NOT your car. It is the dealer's car until you sign the purchase documents and you get the rebates in effect at that time (sometimes Ford will allow rebates/incentives to be locked in but not always and yeah- sometimes it is the dealer locking it in (taking the risk) as a potential discount if Ford drops the incentive prior to delivery).

Side note: the car will show up in the dealer's inventory while in transit and thus the dealer can sell it sight unseen at that point (if the buyer is willing). This really only comes into play if the car is in transit and the incentive is expiring*- at that point you can sign papers, take on ownership, and get the incentives, BUT you will need to hope the panel gaps are ok because it is YOUR car and you can't walk away when it arrives.

* or it is a hot/rare car that you want to guarantee is 'yours' now.

I have a question in regards to this, I ordered my 18 in August when there was several rebates happening with Ford Canada. I received a hefty discount on the order and on my bill of sale it states "all rebates assigned to dealer". I am not anticipating that when my car arrives, my dealership changes its mind about the price I signed to, but can that actually happen? My bill of sale shows the discount amount and my monthly payment.

Sorry- a big unknown for Ford Canada. They may play by different rules (Ford Canada policies, Canadian statutes and regulations etc). Best to simply stop by and talk to your dealer.
