Very interesting to see this thread!

We did the same thing a few months ago. After testing with the JLT Intake and saw some gains with the larger MAF housing we modified an Airaid kit just like you did. We also added the Ford emblem and made our own tinted box cover to give it a nicer look.

We have a great tune developed for this intake combination for manual and automatic cars as well. Our car is an auto so we spent a lot of time and R&D on that tune. It is pretty kick ass.

Awesome! I like that tinted cover too:thumbsup: I have to ask, how did the Airaid compare to the JLT in your testing?

I just checked your site out for the tuning option. Is it really $695 for an email tune and an SCT X4?

Another question

Afraid also sells the tube without the CAI box. Does that tube also have the restrictor in place??

I wondered the same thing myself. Was thinking about going that route and adding a dry panel filter to the stock box, but didn't wanna chance the tube not having the insert.

A couple things to consider is that the huge conical filter will have more surface area than the stock panel, and the Airaid box has a velocity stack incorporated. Not sure how much it helps but I guess it can't hurt.

I was thinking of adding the Airaid tube, because it smooths out the air flow path. But adding the CAI box and the super filter doesn't seem necessary. I base my statement on the TB air flow capacity being less than the air flow capacity of the stock filter and air box. But then again I don't plan on racing or spending much time at 6500 RPM. When my car finally arrives I will chart the intake air temps and make a decision on buying the CAI to influence that factor, but like I said I don't see it being of value for increasing air flow with the stock TB.

Maybe.

I have just the tube on the way as I am sticking with the stock air box with a drop in afe pro dry s panel filter.

I am going to remove the insert in the airaid tube and JDM are sorting me a tune for the car which shall go on the dyno to compare with the SCT 93 canned tune.

I thought I read somewhere that the tune does not have the insert. Post up after you get it to verify

I can confirm the Airaid MIT does not have a removable insert like the full blown Airaid CAI does. I tried the MIT, no power increase but throttle response was improved. :)

I've being speaking to Jim III about this at your place and he told me that the Airaid is one of your guys preferred CAI's on the market.

But when I asked him about removing the insert and having my JDM tune adjusted to cope he adviced against it stating though it made extra power there was some idle issues due to oscillation and drive ability issues, would you agree with those statements?

Those of you here with Airaid CAI who have removed the insert in the Airaid CAI and had your tune adjusted did you experience any of the issues JDM mention?

Looks great!

How did you get rid of the Airraid logo on the plexiglas?

I'm surprised nobody commented on this, lol!! Hey Sick, I was actually thinking about doing that last night but I thought ti wouldn't fit properly. It looks fine the way you did it. Any issues at all with it??

Anyone know if there is a Lund tune available for the Airaid box with restricting insert removed?
Cheers,
Keith
