I just assume that even if they say "made in America", what they mean is "we performed finish machining on these Chinese castings." Made in America doesn't tell you much anymore.
Sometimes that is the case, yes. With our Forged wheels, everything is 100% made in the USA. The forgings to the finished machined and powdercoated product is manufactured at our facility in Vista, CA.

Our FlowForm wheels are designed in house at our facility, but manufactured in Japan by a high quality manufacturer.

Here's my question: Other than being able to say that I bought a "Made in America" product, is there any REAL benefit to spending a significant amount of extra money on a set of wheels made in this country? I totally understand the differences in HOW wheels are made (gravity casting, pressure casting, rotary forging, etc.), but I'm concerned with WHERE they are made in relation to quality and durability. Over the years, I have bought plenty of Chinese-made products that are good, but also many that are horrible.

With all this info in mind, can anyone tell me why an individual should purchase a set of more expensive wheels other than bragging rights? Are there any safety or reliability issues in play here? My car is a DD and doesn't get raced. While I definitely do enjoy talking about the car to other people, I'm not one to blurt out or brag in conversation how much every part or mod costs unless someone specifically asks. Besides, with the car moving or even sitting still at a meet, a person wouldn't even be able to tell the brand of wheels anyway without getting REAL close to them or outright asking you.

If any of you M6G.com wheel manufacturer or retailer sponsors out there can share some more info regarding this topic, I'd definitely be happy to hear it. Thanks!
Safety is one of the points that you brought up, which when you boil it down can potentially go hand in hand with where the product is made. Certain countries have more or less strict policies in regards to safety regulations that the product needs to pass in order to be verified as a legitimate product. You look at certifications such as JWL for Japan or TUV for Germany/Austria and the rest of Europe, and those are very high standard certifications. TUV in particular has very stringent requirements for wheels which is why we know that our products all have to be TUV approved and certified because it's the benchmark in which all other products are compared against. That doesn't mean that JWL isn't as strict or stringent but in the conversation of talking about other countries and their safety standards, some might not be as intensive as TUV or JWL, so for example it may be easier to let a cast wheel pass, where as a considerable amount of cast wheels will not pass TUV/JWL standards.

For the best quality in regards to strength and performance, Forged is the way to go. Our FlowForm options are also JWL and TUV approved and certified to the highest level of quality, and also come with a lifetime structural warranty from HRE Wheels, so either way you go, you know that we have your back.

If you have any additional questions I can help with, don't hesitate to ask :)

Well...i mean o do understand completely. And agree even. But still spending upwards of the 3k mark seems like a bad spend to me. Unless you do shows only babying a wheel is next to imposible. They see the most dirt and grime and they also see the most chips. I had the most beautiful works on a previous car that cost me an arm, and the smallest of potholes just destroyed one. A 900$ replacement. Nah. Bought 4 ebayers for 600, they weighted 7 more pounds each but other than that they looked amazing. And at 150 bucks a wheel i could put them through hell and not care.

I never buy anything thats made outside of the USA when possible. And I cannot stand China made junk. I know I'll be a ear load by saying that but oh well. All my furniture is USA made, my kitchen appliances, all my plumbing throughout the house including faucets, bathroom sink, tub, toilet, all my flooring, Windows, siding, etc etc etc. all made in USA. In my opinion the only thing the Chinese can make that's good are China and stonewalls. I know my flat screen led hdtvs are all made in China but that's it.

You'd be shocked at how much of the "Made in USA" stuff that you own was actually made in china. But oh well

My whole house is hard wood floor and was made in Vermont. Along with my soap stone countertops. My kitchen cabinets were all custom made by local makers with American wood (maple) All my Ethan Allen furniture is made in North Carolina, my silverware is made in the USA by the last existing company (Liberty table top) to do so, all my lighting fixtures are made by a company called the barn light all hand made in USA. My Kohler sinks, toilets, fixtures are made in USA. You pay for what you get. My house siding is fiber cement made by hardie. My plates, bowls, etc are made in USA by fiesta, pots pans etc by calphalon here in Toledo Ohio. 90-95% of everything in my house is made in the USA. Minus tvs, bulbs, radios, clothing.

The biggest thing is cost, for instance if someone can afford it more power to them but things being made here do cost more, for instance I love supporting local shops, small businesses, mom and pop etc. My family has a mom and pop shop ive worked in that environment so I do my best to buy local made products. But in the end of the day I do buy things that are made overseas just because the cost is more effective for me.

People who choose to buy import items can't blame anyone but their self when they or others are out of a job. Every time someone buys import products they support the country of import AND they are allowing the home base company the right to continue to screw us out of a job for their own corporate greed
