I was thinking my 1985 5.0 LX would be around 2800 because it was ordered without air condition. It would be below 3000 lbs with a 1/4 full gas tank. What surprised me the most is that my V8 2007 GT is lighter than my four cylinder 2020 Ecoboost.

Not trying to derail the thread... but why did you end up with the eco after owning the absolutely amazing 14 GT500?
If you still own it same question why go with the eco? Just curious that’s all.

I still have the GT500. I just wanted a turbo charged Mustang. Ford does not make a turbo V8 , sigh !

Are the fox bodies coupe or hatch? Coupe weighs less I believe.

If I remember correctly, the original base model Coupe (1979 4 cylinder 4 spd manual) weighed 2780 pounds. Over the years, I believe the weight went up a little bit.

I believe Ford quotes the weight with half a tank of gas. The 4 cylinder had an 11.5 gallon tank. I don’t remember what the V8 models had.

The power-to-weight ratio absolutely has to be better on newer cars, but it's a shame they're that heavy. Unfortunately, they'd be way more expensive if they had all aluminum suspension and sub-frames, and other weight-reducing materials. So it is what it is. Having said that, at least my Bullitt with PP1 and Steeda front and rear sub-frame braces and jacking rails only (about a 40-lb increment), handles much better than I expected for a 3,850-lb pig (so basically 3,900 lbs with the above mentioned goodies). With all the safety equipment needed nowadays, it's hard to make them much lighter, even using lighter weight materials. I'd settle for a better built car, that feels as solid as its 3,900-lb weight suggests :).

Pretty fun, you should go back and document the power-to-weight ratios.
Allow me...

Curb weight is with full fluids, no driver. And I'm assuming each has advertised crank hp.

85 LX 5.0: 3020/210hp = 14.4 lbs/hp

91 LX 5.0: 3222/220hp = 14.7 lbs/hp
(adding approx gas weight @ 6lbs/gal. Also, okay, advertised at 225hp but really had about 220 after '88 ('87 for Cali cars) and 205 in '93)

2007 GT: 3520/300hp: 11.7 lbs/hp

2014 GT500: 3884/662hp: 5.9 lbs/hp
(adding approx full tank fuel weight)

2020 EB SVO: 3640/330hp: 11.0 lbs/hp

Pretty awesome that the EB HPP has a little 2.3 I4 turbo but could smoke the "5.0"s I worshipped in my youth, not to mention 944 turbos, and has better numbers than a new S197 4.6 GT. It's heavy at 3640 lbs, but keep in mind each 100lbs needs only 9hp to maintain its power to weight. And it has over 100hp more than the foxbodies he has...

The Fox body Mustangs were light but over the years with changing options and federal regulations the weight went up. Federal regulations is the main resound the s550 weights so much.
