I know the New York person on this site will belittle my suggestion and the fine state that will accept your registration but so what?

Do some work. Your answer (for easy registration, lower sales tax obligation, and a title you may keep for a year or as long as you elect) is South Dakota. I am not going to explain the details on how to do this but with some diligence on your behalf your new car may be easily registered, taxed and titled in South Dakota.

South Dakota registration is a pretty common way of getting around those types of problems, true. It's something to look into if you don't mind driving around with plates from a state you've never lived in.

Ya I couldn't get around that stupid law since my "intent" was to register it in WA even though i bought it before I was a resident in that state... But they are loosing out on $700 of my money so its there loss they wont let me register it in WA. I'm just gunna get Utah plates and pay less... so really that law accomplished nothing but loss revenue for the State of Washington and I'm still going to be able to drive anyways. They just made it easier for me to pay less taxes, Good job Californian for putting out another useless law Haha no wonder they are bankrupt.

How far is that going to get you? I'm not even close to an expert, but don't you only have 30 days or something before you need to title and register an out of state vehicle?

Not sure exactly how that pertains to me when they told me at the DMV i have to wait 90 days after i register in Utah before i can transfer that vehicle to WA. If i do get pulled over I think the truth would satisfy any police officer because the point of registration is to make sure there isn't shady things going on or the car isn't stolen. Which Ive been actively trying to resolve this with WA and UT... They literally have so many laws on the books that they all contradict each other. Reading the law didn't help me even when i brought in a printed paper with the code stating that there is an exception for me! I think if i got questioned by an officer and i told him that its being taken care of and a little bit of the back story he would understand. If not him a judge would. especially if I brought in the code stating I could but the DMV denied me on several occasions. He might even give me a court order telling the DMV to do there job. But that's only IF i get pulled over.... if not then none of it matters and i don't have to worry about it.

I drove around Seattle with out of state plates for quite a while. Downtown and northwards the cops could have cared less. South of that they would get right behind me and tailgate for a bit before begging off.

As long as you carry a Utah drivers license to go along with your Utah car reg you wont have any problems with cops in Washington. However if you have a Washington license showing a WA permanent residence you will get some heat. Probably warnings at first. But the 30 day law would apply
