So could you give me a quick rundown on important things to avoid doing to the clutch? I'm just a bit confused what is good and what is bad for the clutch.
I can't believe this thread, you have just brought a 5.0 Mustang, and you don't have a clue how to drive a stick?
If you are used to Auto, then why change?
Why not find out how to drive a manual before you brought it?

He's a young dude. Why wouldn't he want a manual V8? He made a mistake due to inexperience - judge not. Life is full of mistakes, some worse than others. He learned real quick I bet how to drive a manual!

I have never driven an auto with Paddle Shifters, I am watching video's and speaking to people on who have them. Before the car arrives, U dont need to actually drive the car to find out how it works. you can at least do your homework before you get the car
I'm sorry, yes i admire the op for taking the hit and admitting it and asking for help, but I just feel it's crazy to get in a 5.0 fast sports car, without knowing how to drive it, but maybe that's me. Anything could have happened. But it least it's a lesson learned.

Arrogance is what it is. Aggro behavior with no place on such a friendly forum.

Does any one else question the 4-2 shift being the cause? I once missed and went 2-1 in a scion tC at redline and the tires chirped and it nailed the limiter but I drove it for thousands of miles later with no issue. A buddy of mine did the same in his 01 GT with the exact same result. I would expect the S550 to have stronger components than both of those cars. I'm not saying that this isn't a terrible thing to do I'm just a little surprised that this one incident is the smoking gun.

I could smell it, but by that time the damage was done. I'm 22 years old and today was my first manual experience ever.
You have my respect for choosing a Mustang GT for your first manual car. That's kinda ballsy.

You'll get the hang of it. Practice, repetition, musle memory, etc. You'll be golden in a week or so.

Enjoy that beast.

I'm more shocked that you took a brand new car through a car wash instead of washing it yourself....

Glad you've got it back and nothing major happened. Going into 2nd at 70 would do that. In the PP 6MT Ecoboost, 2nd tops out at right around 55. 3rd tops out somewhere around 75-85 (dont remember, I don't take it to redline often). I never mis shifted in the Stang, I find it very easy to drive. What happens to me though, during and after a lot of stop and go traffic is the clutch feels weird -- like it's lighter all of a sudden. No smells or sounds though, I just chalk it up to my leg getting tired. Don't know if it's the car or if it's normal or not.

My clutch is never lighter randomly. Instead, all of a sudden it gets heavy as heck and makes me feel like I've totally buggered it up once and for all. Anyone else worry about this or have similar experience?

If you mis shift into the wrong gear, just catch it before the Rpms hit the limiter. I've done this a few times when I'm half asleep.

Sleep driving, that's a new one.

This happened back in October. I can assure you I am well versed in my manual skills now. Haven't had a problem since and I feel like an expert now. I've got the rev match thing nearly perfect and shifting is mindless. It was a noob mistake lesson learned.

The problem is the damn factory shifter which is junk. It's easier to miss a shift or go into the wrong gear especially for a newbie. The factory shifter is sloppy, vague and not to mention notchy as hell at times. I just ordered the MGW shifter and this is an awesome shifter and is 100 times better than the crappy factory shifter. The MGW shifter is a far superior shifter with better more precise shifts.

I had one in my 5th gen Camaro and it made a huge difference.
