On the bike and other car forums I've been part of there has been similar threads, so I thought I'd start up (another) one here

Out last weekend with the wife we came across a Z06 corvette. It took me a second to get him to engage but he did. 4 lane separated road with no one near... The fates decreed it must happen.

We were rolling about 40 and he got the jump on us. It didn't last long. Around xxx speed we were pulling away. The road narrowed down to 2 lanes he slowed and turned left... I'm sure he was wondering where the hell it all went so wrong

There is a big difference between hitting low triple digits in a 70-80MPH zone, and doing it in contest with another vehicle. I am pretty sure if you were cruising along all by yourself you could pull the "I did not know how fast I was going, sorry" and get it reduced. Racing with another car is a no sympathy situation.
