how to stop alerts

how do I stop alerts (in red on screen by the bell logo) for threads I no longer wish to follow without deleting ALL?

I have done so but every time I look back it s checked again??? doing something wrong. Thanks

Looks like maybe if I hit watched at the top of the page I can delete some there FYI. we ll see.
