Only certain Dealers get limited allocations. Even less if you a want an R. Contact a lot of dealers looking to see which ones actually have an allocation. Dealers are still trying to get ADMs on these cars, so make sure you find the right deal and you may have to go long distance to find the right deal. If they have an un-built allocation you can make the choices on how to build it. Since '17 all come with the most important coolers it doesn't matter as much what options you get for the seat. Leather vs recaros seems to be a personal choice. However, if you choose to look of a built '16, then since you want to track the car, only look for an R or a GT350 with Track Package. If it is a '16 Tech or Base model GT350 it wont have the trans or diff coolers and wont do you much good on the track. And don't think about "adding the coolers" later. At this time nobody has a cooler kit for these cars.
My understanding is a dealer must sell 3 GT350's to get an allocation for an R. Not sure how true that is but I've seen it in multiple places.

As I understand it there are 2 ways

1. Each dealer in the Shelby Program has a chance of "winning" an R allocation.

2. Selling 3 GT350s "earns" the dealer and R allocation.

In reality R's are rare and held for ADM ransom

Good info, I had no idea there was un-built allocation v.s. allocation. Only way I'm getting this car is if it's the exact car I want. What a pain in the ass. And yes the ADM is a joke IMO, it seems plenty of people are getting them at MSRP so Ill just dig I suppose. Thanks for the info.

What I meant by in-built allocation vs allocation is that there is a specific period in which you can make changes to the order. Once Ford excepts the order and issues a VIN it can no longer be changed.

There is a long back log on the GT350s and you can legitimately find a dealer that has an allocation that you can still make changes to.

Man, this process sucks already; called my 1st dealer. Place I know that always had GT500's on the lot.
$10k mark up and the guy was combative about it. Im sorry, I like this car, hell I love this car, but Im not paying over the sticker.
Just a bad investment IMO. Not looking forward to this process. Thanks for the all the info.

Oh - forgot the best part, when I told him I wanted a specific car (white, black roof, leather) he completely disregards it. Says to me "well the best way to get a black roof is to get a black car...." Really? Sigh....

You will go through a lot of dealers before you find the few that are willing to deal at MSRP

AMEN! There are a few that claim they got one for MSRP but MOST of us paid some sort of ADM. Anywhere from 5k-20k. I paid 7k but they they gave me exactly what I paid for my 2016 Mustang and I got all the warranty money back and that was just under 7k.

Well, maybe the MSRP deal is an illusion but I will see what happens.
I have to figure with the GT500 coming out some of the appeal might wane and maybe I'll have to go to the used market. Who knows. Also, I am hoping with the fall/winter approaching things might slow down and maybe that will work in my favor. A guy can dream anyway.

If you're set on MSRP for a 2017, you may need to wait towards the latter half of the MY17 year or at least until the GT500 is officially announced. But by then, you might not be able to order a car exactly as you want it.

I think the vast majority of buyers did pay some amount of ADM. Some who were/are very patient and willing to do a lot of leg work, or just got lucky, may have purchased at MSRP, or even discounted below MSRP. But I think these are the exceptions rather than the rule.

Now is probably the best time to pick up a new MY16, which is what I did. In my case, I did pay a small amount of ADM. About equal to the cost of me making a trip to check out a car out in person and then having it shipped to me. So I was happy with my deal, plus the dealer just happened to have a car that matched exactly what I wanted.

But if you plan to track the car, you definitely need the MY16 Track Pack, and these are much more rare for MY16.

Good luck, hope you find what you're looking for.

I'm in the "got lucky" camp. Once I decided to try to find one, I started contacting dealers. I basically pulled up zip codes from farther and farther away from where I live and shot emails to dealers that seemed to have 2016 or 2017's on the lot (realizing most were already sold etc.). I wanted a 2017 only because I wanted both the coolers, and the electronics...and I was set on Recaro seats. Had to be a 2017 electronics package in one of three colors. All told, I contacted about 50 dealers, found 4 cars that I would have bought. 2 at 10 K ADM (as low as I could get them), one at 20 K ADM and one dealer in Iowa that had "never charged ADM in their history." The IA guy had a 2017 race red electronics package on his lot, so I wired a deposit the next morning and paid $1500 to have it shipped in an enclosed van to my place in OR.

The process wasn't much fun...and I am still getting a ridiculous amount of email from various ford dealers throughout the country. For what it is worth...west coast was the worst for ADM, midwest guys seemed easier to deal with. Good luck man. I know I got lucky, but if you plug away it could happen.

I think I was lucky in that I got my 16 track at MSRP, but a little less lucky to order my R at 10k ADM minus all dealer fees (about a 9k ADM equivalent). So there you go, you hear about (and I've seen on this forum) people offering leads on non R's at MSRP. However, if you want one without having to hunt too much, look to spend 2-10K ADM.

Wouldnt that make roughly 25% of the gt350s Rs? I thought they were closer to 10%.

Good info.
If you get a lead on a MSRP in all those continuing emails let me know!

Call around you will find one at msrp or wait for a lead to be posted. The ford website will let you speak to a representative and they can search dealer inventorys in a region. If you cant wait then a ADM is ok just know you are pissing that money into the wind.
