Home phone suggestions?

I haven't had a regular landline in a long time. Since cell phones and the redundancy. However, I just moved to a house with very poor reception and just for safety's sake, a landline is a good idea.
I use a major company now for cable and internet but not phone also. What's the cheapest and easiest thing nowadays, just adding it to my current cable or a seperate service? We don't do long distance or anything like that.

What provider do you have? I know that some cell companies sell low-power transmitters that connect to your internet.

Time warner. Hung up with them today after first navigating through 5 minutes of robot, then being on hold....just wanted to ask how much extra is a phone line!!

Ah sorry I'm a dumbass, I mean't cell provider... I'd try avoiding Time Warner as much as possible

We have Verizon for cell and I've heard a little about home boosters to increase service but it's so poor I'd rather have something hard wired somehow so E911 shows location. So frustrated with big service providers using automated systems when you call, or if you do get a live person, they are in Mumbai trying to tell me their name is "Frank".

why dont you just add a home # by using you cable internet?

i tried this a few years ago.. works great.. i just renewed my service for 5 yrs for ~130 bucks.. + the # is not sold so phone never rings unless you give out the #.

Use gmail/google. All you need is wifi and I think it is totally free. The only problem is if your wifi went out and there was an emergency. I don't know a whole lot about it but here is some more info:
