The reason why is Adam at Tune+ did some testing a while ago (maybe a year?). I didn't get to see it but I think he streamed it so people could watch. He tested several and what came out the best was that combination, stock air box, green filter and the AirAid intake tube. Since I didn't see it, I don't know what all was tested but I just have a hard time believing it was better than using the whole AirAid intake. It has a bigger inlet opening from the grill, larger filter surface on the filter to allow more air to pass and then the same tube. Why is this? I have the Airraid MXP CAI but always looking for ways to improve
Right now I'm using the GT350 intake that comes with the Ford Performance tune along with my Cervini's Stalker hood that has ram air directed right on top of that box. It would be difficult for me to believe that isn't an extremely efficient setup. It'll be very interesting to see this summer watching the temps. I can tell you with the stock air box and green filter last summer, my IATs were always a good 5* higher than ambient. I know it's too cold to test right now but so far, my IATs have been at or below (1*) ambient. The only explanation I can figure for below is because of where the ambient temperature sensor is located on the front bumper, not too far from the radiator.
