First of I don't know if this is the right place to post this topic so mods feel free to move it wherever you see fit.

Now, I am in the process of selling a h pipe for my old 12 mustang. I have gotten quotes from fedex, ups, and usps all for around $200. Considering the fact that I have seen h pipes being sold for $225 shipped I can't understand people biting the bullet on $200 for shipping.

Can anyone with experience of shipping car parts chime in? Should it really be that expensive to ship the h pipe?

Specs for shipping:
Weight: 25-30 pounds
Box: 54(L) x 36(W) x 18(H)

Thanks guys:cheers:

You're getting killed on the size of the box. The carriers go by weight and size, and a box that size takes up a lot of room. Also make sure you send it ground.

The USPS is usually the cheapest.

Yeah I figured the box was what was killing me. The $200 was for ground, however, I still don't understand how other sellers swing the price.

Essentially it means they are getting $25 for a h pipe that costs $300 new..

I spend about $1000 a day shipping with UPS and they give businesses of all sizes significant discount off of the retail price. Do you have any friends that have a UPS business account with a decent negotiated rate?

See if you can get it shipped through your business for a discount, they might help you out if you work at a mom and pop like place.

You can't find/make a smaller box and just wrap the thing in some bubble?

I haven't boxed it yet but just measured roughly what the box would be. Figured I wouldn't buy a box and get it ready for shipping if it isn't feasible

Do they offer $40 shipping straight away after establishing an account?

Edit: saw that they charge monthly which I wouldn't want to do. This will most likely be a one off

There is a big difference between having a buisiness account and a personal account. Using Fedex from previous experience. I shipped a set of wheels with tires mounted from Roanoke, Va to Atlanta, GA (200 lbs total) and it was $46 shipped. Doing it with my own account I was getting about $120. So if you do have a friend with a business account you can save tons of money that way.
