OP, what is your exhaust set up? Are you 2.25" or 2.5"? I see that the H-pipe is the 2.5". You mention that you "regained the low end". What happened for you to lose it?

Thanks for the details!
We stepped down after the H-Pipe and kept it 2.25. everything welded in except for the bolt on to the cats.

The only thing I did was change the midpipe. I had the stock resonator and a muffler delete. The stock resonator is bad at helping scavenging for the V6. This restored the scavenging back pressure.
It's a huge noticeable difference just swapping out the midpipe.
This is the only mod I've done to my car.

Sounds great!
I love how the car sounds.when you paddle down shift, especially 2-1 at 25mph:headbang:
Thanks
That's 3 to 2 at 35-ish. I never downshift to 1st .
It's just that loud.

Chaos, thanks for the explanation. After all I have read on savaging and its benefits, I am hesitant to go with 2.5". All aftermarkets go with the 2.5" except Borla, they keep the stock diameter. I think that unless we are going to heavily mod our cars that 2.25 may be more efficient in the low torque area. The GT exhaust swap is getting popular and is super cheap but I am concerned about the lose of the low end.

You guys correct me if I'm wrong in my explanation, but this is the performance conclusion that I'm coming to after a few days.

The way I understand it from feeling, at higher rpm the exhaust behaves like a straight through eliminating scavenging and effectively giving it zero resistance hence more HP with airflow but at the low and low mid it gives more torque.

After going up highway ramps and inclines it definitely punches through and out towards higher rpm almost effortlessly.

With stock resonator and muffler deletes, it sounded more forced.

You won't loose any low end on a 1/2" diameter difference in piping. Just make sure one is using an H/X pipe and not a straight through pipe without any crossover. (aka true dual exhaust) Ford's v6 from far back as I know no likey straight pipes; proper scavenging is a must.

Unless one has a local shop that can competently build an H-pipe, buying a GT resonator delete kit is a no-brainer. Plus the choices of budget (aluminized) or SS kits are readily available. It shouldn't cost more than $40 to adapt & weld the rest of your stock exhaust/aftermarket AB/or free GT mufflers to complete ones set up.

Very informative video. It doesn't help me in choosing between x-pipe or h-pipe though. From what I can tell it'll be just the sound for me. Unfortunately they both sound good, though right now I am leaning towards the raspy sound of an x-pipe. But when I hear a h-pipe it kinda makes me think about it.

Thanks for the info and video,I wonder what that h pipe with stock mufflers would sound like with the 15-16 V6?

The rule of thumb that I have always heard is h-pipe for low end torque and the x-pipe is more for high end power.

Do they have many h-pipes to choose from for the v6?

Zero that I know of in 2.25". I think Flowmaster does an x-pipe in that size though. I would expect a descent exhaust shop should be able to make one.

There really isn't much to worry about in pipe diameter.

The Heartthrob itself goes from 2.5 to 2.75. I chose it because of the sound and that step up makes a difference in sound. Also not all H-Pipe sound the same.

It's not like we're jumping a big amount in 1/4 inch diameter.
It's a 300 HP engine.

3" piping might be pushing it but with an H-Pipe it would definitely work.
I doubt aftermarket exhaust companies would play with their reputation offering them that way if they hadn't done R&D first.
I just don't want to pay $800 for an exhaust.
The reason Borla sticks to 2.25 is probably because they work so closely with Ford and try to stay in specs to stay in fords graces.

I plan on going full 2.5 when I add the GT mufflers because honestly, necking down to 2.25 doesn't create much back pressure considering I have no mufflers on there.
The H-Pipe is doing all the scavenging by design.

In essence any well done H-Pipe, x-pipe will be much better than that resonator made to keep the car quiet.

if I get a custom made H pipe from a shop for my stock v6 and if they won't do a good job, what are the chances me losing power or torque? should they really be good at their job? what is the worst can happen?

I just got a quotation for resonator delete with and H pipe. it is $145. what do you think? X-pipe is the same as well.
Probably I am gonna go for a H pipe. and keep the rest stock

Hey man I'm curious how hard was it to fit the GT h-pipe in the v6. Will I have to modify it in anyway to get it to fit the v6 or is it just a simple swap? Any additional hardware/fabricating to get it to fit I mean. Thanks!

As with Everything in life, go to a reputable business with recommendations and good reviews.

I honestly can't comment on anything but the Heartthrob.
I assume the difference would be miniscule really between them.

No just clamp to the factory mount and weld the the rest to the factory pipes.
