Trying to get an idea what I would need to run a set of headers with my MBRP street. Its a full 3'' exhaust, but tapers for the factory connect.

Would I be looking at just cutting the H-Pipe and fabbing something, or is there a set I can order that will connect using the existing clamps?

With most maor brands of headers you can get a factory connect. think ARH is the only one that doesn't They include a full 3" x-pipe or h-pipe with their headers. Not sure if you can get them with out the x/h pipe.

No point in making a bottle neck with a factory connect set up. Just have the muffler shop cut off the ends off of the MBRP system and weld on some 3" extensions to mate up with your headers. I had this done before and it works great for minimal investment.

I had a long discussion with Kooks about this the other day. They tell me there is just about zero point to cutting and welding a "bottleneck" eliminator. They said doing it might net you ~5 dyno hp and would amount to pretty much zilch in real world conditions. Don't get me wrong it will net something, but not anything you would even feel or see at the track. Definitely not enough to justify the cost or inconvenience of doing it.

They say the need for this isn't until you get to the 1000+ hp range. Which for 99.9999% of us is never.

Do it if it makes you happy, I'm just passing along the information I received and the reason why I am no longer going to worry about it.

I did the stainless power headers with the MBRP street exhaust.

Does Kooks even offer a bottleneck eliminator setup?

ARH definitely thinks it is worthwhile eliminating the bottleneck. Did you by chance talk to them about it as well?

The truth if probably somewhere in the middle.

The power gain from a proper tune and headers will outweigh the bottle neck eliminator. I wouldn't even consider it on N/A applications.

The ARH "bottleneck" system would all you to cut the tapered section of the MBRP catback to run a full 3" system.

Give us a shout if you need any help or have further questions.

They don't. Their headers have an clamp on elbow at the factory connection that makes the drop down to factory connect. I asked if they could make me an elbow that drops down to 2.5" instead of the 2.25 factory connect. They said their jig wouldn't allow this.

I told him I would just have someone cut the drop down off the elbow and the drop down off the inlets to the Borla mid muff (touring kit) and weld in 2.5 sections so my headers would drop down to 2.5 and stay that size all the way to the tips.

He spent a good amount of time to explain how this is just not worth my bother or expense. He even tells me there is absolutely no need for 3" until you hit the 1,000 hp area.

Mind you he wasn't going to do this so he wasn't driven to talk me out out it. He was just letting me know it really wouldn't be worth the time and money for maybe ~5 hp that I'll never feel or notice at the track.

I'm taking his advice and not looking back. That's all I wanted to pass along. People are gonna come along and argue he's wrong and especially about the 3" and that's ok. If you want to, do. If you don't, don't. I'm comfortable with my decision and I'm running a Whipple making 700 rwhp.

the arh will have the bottleneck eliminator and another midpipe that you would be able to fab up

the kooks and stainless works and stainless power have 3" perf connect systems, but you'll need some fabbing there as well where the mbrp necking down to 2.25

the above will also have a connection that will allow you to connect at the 2.25 as well

let us know if we can help you with any of the 4

Thanks for all the information everyone. I like the ARH, but I'm not sure if I want to swing the cost as I would still need the tune.

I'm looking at probably going with the Stainless Works setup. Beef, once I hear back from a local installer I'll be in touch.
