header install was a success, thanks to nick for coming out and helping and talking trash lol! Now onto my next problem, my exhaust is way too loud in the city. Anyone have experience with inline resonators/mufflers? Would putting a stock muffler system back on rob me of performance?

ĂŤ had headers with a FRPP touring cat back, and it was loud and raspy af. I welded in some vibrant resonators and it tames it quite a bit. I missed the noise so I switched it up again...then again lol

lol, yeah, mine is raspy at city speeds (around 2.5k rpm). On the freeway it's fine, you almost wouldn't know that the headers are installed. I'm just afraid of around town driving, and of course the dreaded cold start at 0500. I'm pretty sure my neighbors hate me.

I actually liked the tone of the exhaust with the resonators. The real reason I changed my setup the first time was because I had a bad weld on the top of my H pipe that leaked/hissed like crazy. It was a lot more quiet inside the cabin and when driving next to a wall all I could focus on was the damn hiss. I blamed the resonators, and I didn't find the hole until I bought a new catback. I got the vibrant 2.5" resonators on Amazon for like $50 each btw.

+1 for Vibrant resonators, they reduce volume, kill rasp, and give a nice deep tone.

In the market for a S550 - doing homework
New guy here. Joined because I plan on buying myself an S550 for XMAS this year. Anyways, I've been browsing the forum for a couple days learning as much as I can and stumbled upon this thread. Is your car (OP) dark grey? I was behind one the other day near Sierra HS on Wawona towards Airport that sounded pretty good, and since your post is about exhaust, and Manteca isn't huge, figured there's a decent chance it was you lol.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, it's just not often you see Manteca talked about on a forum.

lol no need to worry about a hijack. My car is not Dark Grey, I have a Race Red GT. I work in the army recruiting center over by spreckels so if you ever stroll that way, you'll see it outside.

Side note edit: Took the car to the exhaust shop and had them weld on a spintech muffler. The car sounds almost quieter than it was with just the flowmaster outlaw. No more rasp, just a clean sound. The butt dyno feels a little less power, but that might be a placebo with the sound...who knows? All I care is that I can start my car at 0530 to go the gym and my neighbors won't hate me. :D:D:D
