I typed out a novel but my phone refreshed for no reason and I lost it.

But my screen name tells it all.

I was a car guy up til Ca tried to ban everything. Had to buy/build before they banned a bunch of shit in 98-2000 and again with the 50bmg ban around 2004.

for years I was OCD about shooting. Primary focus being long range shooting to the point it sent me back to school as a math major so as to be a bit more solid on the math of 1k+ yard shooting. My screen name comes from my first AR build in 98 which was a JP Enterprises 24in bull upper on a DPMS stainless lower. Hello 14 pound recoiless 3/4moa 10 shot group making devining rod of death on Ca ground squirrels. 400 yards on Ca ground squirrels and a 600 yard hit on a Ca jack rabbit.

I wanted to get into F-class and I have a 300WinMag 700p in the safe that has been to 800 yards with 200grn SMKs at 2800fps. That rifle shot a 5 shot group I could cover with my hand in a 5.5moa cross wind at 800. Mostly luck and doubt I will ever match or surpass it. At some point it may get rebuilt with a 28 inch match barrel.

Shot some action rifle matches back when the 2700 round south african tubs were still around for 330 bucks. Why I didnt buy 10 tubs of that shit I will never know, or Q3131a for 185 delivered....

Wasnt until I was 30 that it ALL started to become less fun(work related reason combined) combined with the cost being increasingly annoying.

Have shot my own guns maybe 8 times in the past 7 years.

I am now back to cars after having woke up one night 3 years ago dreaming of my non-stressful job. 3 weeks later I sold 2 of my N-framed Smiths for seed money on my 95 Cobra. Year and a half later I bought my 2005GT so I could have a fun car to drive while my 95 was down for mods. I neck bearded ammo and some Ca legal AR15 lowers for seed money on the 2005. This last august I bought my 2015 GT.

Think I have come full circle. If it were not for Ca gun bans I would have been into cars a lot sooner. My 95 was my dream car, realistic dream, in highschool and my graduating year.

Current girlfriend is interested in her CCW and has a lot to do with how we met and how I got her number. Taking her shooting is fun. She bought a G36sf before we met. She is 5ft4in tall and weighs 92 pounds but is doing okay, we worked up to her gun from my 22lr, G22, and G27.

Anyhow, cars for now are cheaper for me than guns. I can kill a set of tires and feel better about than if I came home with a bucket of empty brass.

IMHO, firearms are an investment in your liberty, safety and security. They're fun while your shooting, but not so fun when you have to clean them. So, for me they are an investment I hope I never have to use.

My s550 is all fun. I never modify it unless the mod is fun or I can afford to pay someone else to mod it for me. Either way, when it is no longer fun, it will be gone and I will get another fun car. I have yet to own a car that is a good investment because I don't believe that many are good investments.

So the question I ask myself before I buy anything is what do you want to do with your money, invest it or have fun with it? YMMV.

I particularly enjoy cleaning. After a nice day at the range, chill out on the patio with a cigar, glass of bourbon, and some music and get to work.

That is, after making sure all of the weapons are clear and not in proximity of any ammunition.

I love cleaning them! I agree that they're an investment in liberty and what not, but they're also meant to be used!

I was infantry in an army as well (not US). I do love cleaning my guns, but cleaning an M240 or .50 is a true pain in the ass! Enjoy that Sig!!!

Yeah, the larger weapons sucked to clean. My friend forgot to release the tension on the M249 and when he opened it up, the spring hit him in the eye. Thankfully he was wearing glasses but still hurt him really bad.

I'm trying to see how long I can go without cleaning my AR15. It is a Adams Arms piston driven. I have 2000 rounds of wolf ammo through it and still no failures.

As annoying as it is, army rules are "written in blood". Gotta clear the tension!

Did you get that Adams Arms from Buds? They've been advertising the hell out of it for a while now. If the piston AR performs like they say, like an AK, you'll probably go a long time. If 10,000 rounds is the life of the barrel, you've already shot 20% of it without cleaning! Pretty solid.

I got the Adams Arms upper from Midway. I have a Core 15 lower. However, I buy most of my guns on Buds. My p226 is ready for pickup today. :D I also put a timney trigger in it.

Big fan of my LWRC piston AR's, so much easier to maintain.
I almost bought a LWRC. That might be my next gun. I'm probably going up to Ocala National Forest on Sunday to set out my p226.
