I thought about this as well...until I drove a GT with 3:55's...it felt VERY similar to my PP gears, so I didn't think it would be worth the hassle...unless I am driving very quickly, I have learned to do second gear starts pretty well, and avoid a big shift.

You can hit 61 MPH in 2nd at 7000RPM with 3.73's and the stock PP wheels/tires. Like Steve44 said just start out in 2nd and then shift to 4th then to 5th or 6th when just cruising around.

Since you have a tune, I would assume the rev limit was raised? You should be able to just inch out 60mph in second for sure.

Nonetheless I wouldn't change gears unless I was boosted.

3.31 is the best all around choice.
Not trying to be a smart a$$ but "best all around choice" for what? I think the 6 speed with a 3.31 would be horrible off the line but that is just my opinion.

What is the huge desire to hit 60mph in 2nd gear? I guess that is my first question here.

Secondly, you aren't going to notice much difference going from 3.73's to 3.55's.

You can spin the wheels fine with 3.31 gears, and if the wheels are spinning a shorter gear isn't helping you any.

Autocross courses are typically designed to top out around 60, avoiding the 2-3 shift (and 3-2 shift) saves you a couple tenths a pop (maybe several times over the course). Less of an issue is avoiding a 4-5 shift in the quarter mile. Then you have a 20 mph higher effective top speed with the 3.31 verses 3.73's. Now in theory, with stock (tall) tire sizes you will just squeak in without an extra shift before 60 and the quarter mile. But shift a bit early to avoid hitting the limiter (which slows you more than shifting early) and/or run a bit shorter tire (which you are almost forced to do to get really high performance tires) and you have these issues.

Now if you are a 1/8th mile drag strip guy with tall sticky drag slicks, the 3.73 is for you. For autocross, the street, and even road course use I'll take the 3.31 (for a dedicated T1 or T2 road course car the 3.55 would get a hard look).

And I agree you're unlikely to notice much difference with 3.55.

Now some people think that because their granddad ran 4.11's back in the day they need short gears. But the typical 60's 4 speed only had like a 2.5 to 2.2 first gear, while we have a much shorter 3.6 with our 6 speed.

i'm on day 9 of the '16 gt pp and compared to my '13 gt with 3.55 i simply can't tell a difference. i should report back with a specific speed, gear and rpm and someone with 3.55 gears could do the same. i think i might be 250-500rpm higher than the '13 with 3.55's at 40mph in 4th or 5th.

I'm on 3.31's, I'm doing 2k rpm at 50mph in fifth. Can't really use 6th at 50mph because it drops that to 1250 rpm.

I used to think my 3.73 were too short and want the 3.31. Driving it, I like the 3.73. I can use 5th in the city which is nice. It seems to always have passing power, and the 3.31 I test drove felt a bit sluggish to get going in comparison.

Our 'export' RHD GTs all get most of your PP (man or auto) with non-torsen 3.55 LSD.

I think we miss out on strut brace and gauges only.

Frankly, the issue is not the final drive, its the gear ratios. I would have moved 1-5 shorter and closer to sixth gear.
