If I recall correctly I believe the new owner paid just under $1 million for Jackson's 1965 GT350 with the price end up being $962,500.

After some healthy fees that was quite a price. Beautiful car.

Here’s mine next to Ken Miles 1966 GT40 and Miles and Jerry Titus’ 1965 Championship winning GT350R, 5R002.

When it comes to Ford racing history and iconic Ford automobiles it does get any better than this at least from my perspective. :flag:

I agree with you PP001 Fords Rule, and really always have through out history. Hell Henry Ford put the Whole World on Wheels. I just wish a guy could buy some wheels that would fit my 20 HEP R that look like the original 65 Cragers that were an option in 65! Nobody makes them to fit the new Mustang's. Heck if you are going to make a Heritage addition, like the Original, wouldn't you make it Look the same??

PP001 One more thing, I'll Bet you sure wish you had your "R" Model back Huh? Worth more than Craig Jacksons!

It was a terrific car but unfortunately was not one of the original 34 Competition Cars that Carroll and his team built back in 1965.

Having said that there was 1 of the 34 original Competition Cars that actually made it to Canada directly from the SA LAX location with that R model going to Brown Brothers Ford in Vancouver, Canada.

I purchased an '87 LX 5.0 notchback from that dealership and went racing and got to know the grandson (Tim Brown) of the original dealership owner who purchased the '65 Comp Car which by the way won 5 International Championship with that car.

Tim was in my '65 when I was clocked at 61 MPH in a 35 MPH zone by the RCMP and I was still in first gear as this was early on when I was still running 3.00 gears in that high revving '65 but went up to 3.70's shortly after that episode with law enforcement.

As a caretaker of a 66 GT350 since 1987, and now also a 17 GT350, I totally agree. When I decided a few years ago to totally obliterate the budget and add a 2nd car, I thought long and hard on what that car would be...65-66 K-code Mustang, 69-70 Boss 302, 63-64 427 Galaxie, and S-197 GT500 all came to mind, plus a few others. Can't go wrong with any of those. But in the end, the current GT350 and it's completely unique VooDoo engine just totally intrigued me, and I have not been disappointed!

While there are a ton of differences as you would expect over 50+ years of technology improvements, IMO the cars have VERY similar personalities, there is a certain hard to explain mystique to both. The original GT350's have a strong history of owner's pushing them to the limits as intended. Same with the current GT350.
"As a caretaker of a 66 GT350 since 1987, and now also a 17 GT350.." Any pictures? Growing up in the 80's I had a '69 Mach 1 (summer car only, never saw snow). One of my neighbors had a blue '66 GT350 ( and a '68 GT500KR convertible that he totaled). As much as I love my '20 GT350, if I had the means, I would definitely attempt to acquire a '65 or '66.

Sure. I really need to take photos of the 2 cars together but for now....

2nd montage: Left is a previous owner during a SCCA race at Portland International Raceway in 1974, turn 12. Right is me in the same PIR turn at SAAC-17 OT in 1992.

The '69 Mustang Mach 1 was such a terrific looking car and loved the quad headlights along with fact the a person could order a 351, 390 and 428 in different configurations.

Thanks ! Mine was actually a '69 with a '70 351C, .030 over, medium riser manifold w/a Holley 750, headers, hotter cam, some other goodies, and a Detroit Locker w/4.11's. The only thing I wish the car had was a 4spd. It was C-6 auto.

Wow, those 4.11 gears are sweet especially when equipped with a Detroit Locker rear end which is very rare and believe that the only other gears that it came with was 4.30 gears and seen a couple of them in some Boss 302 cars.

Obviously your launch out of the hole with those gears and rear end was pretty cool!!

Indeed! IMO one of the pinnacle Mustangs of all time is the 69 Mach 1 with 428 SCJ.

I bought the Detroit Locker and 4.11's aftermarket. I believe the original ratio was 3.25's.
