GT350R Exhaust

Hi y'all. Just joined this site. I'm liking the new GT350R...and I was kind of glad it beat the Z/28 head to head that way Chevy has to really step up their game with the track version of the 6th gen Camaro(whatever it may be called) anyways, anyone know what the components of the exhaust system are? Sounds awesome. Hard to believe it's from the factory.

I don't believe the exhaust has been released yet, but a BIG reason for the unique sound of that exhaust is actually the flat plane crankshaft. Here's hoping they release it for the 5.0!

On a Porsche forum someone mentioned the same thing when hearing the GT350 at the Shelby Track Tour... "I can't believe it's legal."

As for loudness, it has an active exhaust where two of the four exit ports can be closed.

2. Cats
3. X-pipe
4. Small Resonator on each exhaust
5. Muffler by-pass valve
6. Muffler or pass through (depending on valve position)

GT350R:
Same as above but without resonator.

Lethal Performance just made a post showing some photos and describing some changes they are making to the stock exhaust.

Well I mean on my car, I have NoWeeds. Open headers when I want and through the mufflers when I don't. Very loud. Not sure if it's actually "legal". Any of y'all mustang folks have NoWeeds?

So it's like NPP for Chevy? You can have two open in touring, but in sport/track mode it'll open up all 4 and bypass the mufflers I believe, giving you that nice sound.

Is this the first muscle car to come from the factory with headers installed? A lot of people are saying how much nicer that exhaust is over the Camaro SS, but the Camaro doesn't come with headers. It also has 4 cats. 2 monitored and 2 unmonitored. The unmonitoreds act as resonators. So I'm thinking once people start putting headers and removing those unmonitored cats(resonators) it'll sound damn good with the NPP open.

The LT1 in the '16 SS has tri Y short tube headers from the factory. The 5.0 has had a tri Y short tube header since its inception.

And those "unmonitored" cats that you are referring to are absolutely more than just "resonators." The first cat is lined with platinum and rhodium. The second cat is lined with platinum and palladium. These metals chemically change exhaust gases on contact once they're headed up, in short, to do their best to only release CO2 and water into the atmosphere.

I was guessing the GT350/R has long tubes? That's what I was referring to. Sorry about that. Down here there are no emission laws so I have no cats on my car now. Smells just like the drag strip when I start it lol. When I get the 6th Gen Camaro, I'd be taking off all the cats anyway.

Still sounds like a bucket full of nuts n bolts being flung around, but better than the Z/28.

Oh absolutely not. Long tubes allow the exhaust gases to travel too far down stream and the substrate never would stay at temperate at lower RPM operations causing emissions headaches for the OEM's. Even on cars like Ferraris and LFA's...they're cats are very closely tucked in and while those manufacturers go the extra length (no pun intended) to tune their exhaust systems, they're by no means a true long tube.

Wow. So would putting long tubes still would make a difference in sound? Or is it fully tuned for these headers to have optimum sound?
