Don’t forget a lot of cars just use standard sidelight bulbs as DRL’s not all have fancy LED Strip items.

2011 was when the eu forced manufacturers to fit them to all new designs, hence your 2011 defender not having them. Cars first registered from Feb 2018 onwards will fail an mot if drl’s aren’t working:

Just checked online at Gov.uk and they say that any car from Feb 2011 must have them, however my Defender is April 2011 and that doesn't have them??? I'm guessing this is one of those loophole type laws..

This is what i was told by my MOT tester. (Ie; everyone on here's mustang s550... needs them!)

Yes, but, if they came with them, and you removed them, you fail (Again, so my MOT tester told me when i removed mine)

Only applied to brand new models. Not stuff that was already in a production run that started before 2011.

Hence it not being an enforceable mot requirement until 2018. To give time for manufacturers to move to new model lines naturally (and time to kill off the defender)
