So I guess the question becomes where am I buying 5mm spacers, and are they necessary if I won't be lowering? Any suggestions?
I purchased ebach's. Lots of places have spacers. e-bay, (https://www.americanmuscle.com/14in-wheelspacer-pair.html) etc.

Is +40 with a 5mm spacer equivalent to a +35mm without spacer? Or does it go the other way?
Not sure how the math works on those.

40 + 5 = 35. All you need. Push's the wheel farther from the wheel well, closer to the fender lip. It's not JUST the wheel also how wide the tire is and it's actual width. XYZ company's 275 will be different than ABC company's. Tires also sits different on a different width wheel regards of it's stated section width.

See this web site as to how wheel width/offset works/changes.

I guess it becomes do I need no spacer to match(40-5= 35-35=no), or do I need a 10mm(40+5=45-35=10)?
Need 5mm at least. 10 will just push wheel out more. Possible issue in then not enough thread engagment of lug nuts, which is real BAD!! 5 is all you need.

I think there's a misunderstanding. These wheels have a +35mm offset alone without spacers. So does that mean I don't need one?
