I am looking at a 2023 Mach1 Special Edition at a local dealer. In the trunk is all documentation that came with the car. Along with that in a nicely presented box is a set of new gears. Looks to me like a set of rear end gears. The salesman had no idea what they were. He also couldn’t explain why they came with the car. The box was well presented with a picture of a Mach1, gears set in nice foam. Is this something they give you when you purchase one new? Car is in great shape 1 owner 6600 miles. Any help would be appreciated.

"Special Edition" I'm not familiar with. Is there anything unique about this car? Is it a Handling Pack car?

But the box and the gears, I believe that's the Mach 1 Owner Welcome Kit. Silver, grey-looking gears, yes?

It's great the owner and the dealer kept the Welcome Kit with the car. Owners sometimes sell them on eBay.

Edit,

This link will show pictures of the different kits Ford has made over time.

If you have any more questions about the car and possible purchase, feel free to ask.

Welcome kit. That’s exactly what it is. It’s all there. The original window sticker shows a $450.00 car cover, it’s not there.
I don’t see anything showing it is a Special Edition. The salesman keeps telling me that it is. This Ford dealer probably only sells 2 Mustangs a year. This is probably the first Mach1 they have ever seen.

When the Mach 1 was rebooted and debuted, many dealers were marketing the car as "Limited Edition", "Special Edition or "Special Allocation" (See the chassis # on the dash). Ford also made some kind of initial statement using this wording. The implication was "Limited Production", which, special as they are to their owners, they were not limited production cars. Anyone who wanted one could place an order. It is nice they produced from 2021-2023, then stopped; this might be what drove the "Limited" and "Special" wording.

If the car has a chassis # starting in "PP" or "TT", that would be sweet; these models are Pre-Production, Tool and Test cars. Several are circulating. Otherwise, being a 2023, the chassis number should start with a "P".

Cool on the Welcome Kit.

Shame the cover did not come with. Ordered, indoor car covers were shipped separately, to the parts department. I have one. They are nice. A combination of microfiber and felt that stretch and present well over the car. The covers were produced in different colors. And there were the "low wing" (non-Handling Pack) and "high wing" (HP) versions. If you do buy the car and want a Ford cover, you can probably find one on eBay or in the dealer system, maybe selling at a discount.

Great. Thanks for the help. I’ll check the chassis #.
