I continue to see guys recommending lower gears but I can't find anyone who claims to have them behind the auto. I would like to go 3:90's but I'm worried the 10 speed would be tripping all over its self in the first couple gears. Anybody?

If you're on a 27-28" tire, a 3.55 rear gear is about as short as I would go behind a 10R80.
