Got into a minor accident last night, for all intents and purposes, and am now in the market for a new front bumper.

Ebay seems to be a good resource, but it looks like there are two options...

A complete set, grille, splitter, foglight housings etc. and then what appears to be just the cover and no grille, housings and splitter.

Seeing as I have those items still intact, is it possible/easy to transfer them from my old bumper to the new one? There's a big price difference in the two.

Link is an example of what I'm talking about, albeit not the exact one I'll get.

Thanks guys!

Check out some of the videos on removing the front bumper, and search for some threads on the subject. I think I've seen a Steeda front bumper thread that had info as well.

I know how to install/uninstall the bumper cover, just not sure what swapping the trim entails. Good video though, thanks!

I had my body shop swap the OEM cover for the Steeda cover and that includes moving over the fog lights and grills. The fog lights are easy as I changed them out myself and upgraded them to the Diode Dynamics glass assemblies, simple swap (3 or 4 bolts).

The shop told me the grills were not hard just a bit of a pain in the ass as they are really held tight in the OEM cover. They used a heat gun on low to heat up/soften the plastic clips so they could pull the grill out without damaging the grill or the clips.

One of the reasons I switched to the Steeda is I had an 18 year old kid back into me at restaurant parking lot. He was going really slow so it only had a mark on it from their license plate bolt but his farther did not want me to submit a claim so they paid for my new bumper! In the end it work out well. I now have the OEM sitting in my basement

I figured the fogs will be easy. I've done the grilles when I had my EB I swapped with GT Grilles...they're a PITA to get out, but easy if you don't care about the bumper and since this one will be garbage I don't care. So now only question is the bumper shock absorber (no idea how that attaches) and the splitter. Which from what I can see, it just a few little bolts. I think I got lucky that the splitter wasn't damaged...expensive part.

Taking this thing off is always a pain, learned that with my EB. But a clean bumper will allow me to sleep at night.

It looks like something securing the headlight was damaged too as it's only secured with the top bolt, need to find the part # for the support for it.

What color is your OEM?

Mine is Ruby Red. Splitter should be easy as well, clips and bolts. Not sure on the other parts you mentioned.

Gentlemen -

This is a timely thread. I was backing out of our garage at work the other night, thought I was in reverse, but was in first, and poked a hole in my front bumper. See the pic.

Man I hate it when I do dumb stuff like that.

Anyway, I have the same question as Ryan about buying the entire bumper with grille and all, or just the bumper cover.

Ryan - have you decided on which way you're going? Would you keep me updated on how it goes for you? I can turn a wrench a bit but I'm thinking about paying a good body shop to swap out the bumpers.

Thanks.

I went with the bumper cover only. Picked one up on ebay 0 miles for $275 shipped. if your grilles and splitter are in tact, I'd save the coin and swap them over. I've done the change before, mostly on my old EB. It's not a fun job, but very very doable. Made 100x easier with an impact wrench to get the 20 or so little bolts from the belly pan.

Thanks, Ryan. That's a good price and good that you got one with zero miles. I'm assuming the paint match was good b/c it was the factory paint. Did you get it off of E-bay?

Thanks.

Received the front bumper assembly that I purchased from microautopartsinc off of Ebay.

It looks brand new. It must have been taken off the donor Stang as soon as the car was purchased. Not a mark or a scratch on it.

I hope to do the swap tomorrow.

Well I had a hiccup with the swapped. Even though microautopartsinc advertised the assembly as one for a PP GT, and pics they had on Ebay showed it as one, on closer inspection the bottom splitter was not for a PP GT. So can see it's not if you look close in the pic I posted above.

So, I had use my old splitter. Luckily it's still in good shape but I wasn't planning on having to take the time to swap the splitters.

Anyway, if I were to do it again, I would speak to someone at microautopartsinc to make sure they were going to send me the correct one.

You should be able to sell the non pp splitter, it's a surprisingly expensive part. I received my magnetic bumper from them the other day and installed no issues. I had to swap over my grilles, that's a pain in the ass, but I saved about $200 by doing it.

Thanks, Ryan. I've already got a fellow member in San Antonio coming to pick up the fang grilles from my old bumper assembly. In fact, he's taking the entire old bumper assembly but without the non-pp splitter.

And I'd certainly like to part with it. It's practically brand new and I have no use for it.
