My app was showing my car was running when it wasn’t. I contacted the app support. I had to reload the app. Still no change. Then was transferred to Sync support. They told me that it needed updated. That mine had never been done. Each version is only good for 365 days and gets changed every June. I assume since this was Ford support this is correct. Anybody here do this every year? The car is a 21 GT/CS I bought off my 77 year old uncle. I’m 64 and definitely not tech savvy. Just now learned how to send a pic on my phone.

Is the app working otherwise? Can you remote start or lock and unlock your doors? Was this just a one off glitch?

I’ve never tried any of that through the app. Haven’t had a need to. Last fall when we switched the app from my uncle to me it still showed the service history of the car he had done. After a month that went away. I had a tire replaced last October and had the car serviced yesterday at the dealer and today it shows I have not had any service at all. Shows no points or anything. It does show I have 100% oil life so the oil change is there. The dealer is looking into it on there end. If it can’t be resolved I’m going to delete the app. I have all the hard copies that my uncle and I have done anyway. I first thought it was me an old man not knowing what I’m doing but I think now this app doesn’t work.

"...switched the app from my uncle to me..."

I've attached some links. To confirm, he invited you to join/attach to the car, in the method described below, yes?

https://www.ford.com/support/how-to...i-authorize-another-user-in-the-fordpass-app/

https://www.ford.com/support/how-to...t/how-do-i-add-a-vehicle-to-the-fordpass-app/

While I've read of transferring vehicles between owners, I've never read of someone continuing to read the service history after the transfer is complete. I have read that the Ford Pass App can allow records to be moved, but I've never confirmed someone has been successful at that.

It's my belief Ford does not allow for the long-term view of previous records because of the privacy information (name, address, phone, etc.). I understand he is your relative an all. I think once the vehicle transfer occurred, and a brief period might have been available to view or download some things, that link was eventually severed.

The link below describes a Sync Master Reset; this action will factory default Sync, removing any information he may have entered (like phone lists or radio settings). Doing a reset could be worthwhile. A reset will not delete or disable sync. It will simply remove any personal information.

Each version is only good for 365 days and gets changed every June.
He might have had a subscription to Sirius or Ford Navigation; these will renew each year. Otherwise, the Sync software itself only needs to be updated when there is a code change.

Some suggestions on how to cancel a NAV subscription.

Some info on Sirius.

This is a link of what I believe to be the last Sync update. It's a long thread, but provides details on how to update/upgrade Sync itself. Sync has not had any updates since sometime in 2023. Unless you're way behind, you should not have to update the Sync software itself.

With respect to the Ford Pass App itself, that can be updated as needed. Deleting the app, rebooting the phone, then installing the latest version is a good practice.

Finally, check any security settings on the phone itself; these can often interfere with apps, like ad blockers and anti-virus can affect file transfers, e-mails and how web pages are seen.

So let me get this straight. If I bought this car off the lot not knowing who the previous owner was and dealers not allowed to give their personal info out, I would have to somehow find the past owner to inform them they need to invite me 1st for this thing to work? I would think there would be an easier way for the new owner to manage this. But as stated earlier I am not tech savvy. I will just delete the app and enjoy the car as is.

There were several topics mentioned previously. I'm going to offer what I believe should be happening now that you own the vehicle.

At some point, Ford realized the vehicle had a new Owner. When that occurred, the link to your Uncle was lost. I'm not surprised by that. At that time, the Ford Pass App should have begun working correctly for you and your history. You would have lost access to the previous vehicle data.

Regarding the comments of subscriptions, I'd confirm if there were any involved with the car, either NAV or satellite radio. While these subscriptions are updated annually, the software is updated as needed. If you want to continue to enjoy those, you'd have to reach out to Ford and Sirius about continuing to use those. Otherwise, they can lapse, you ultimately losing access to them.

For Sync, there is the chance Sync does need to be updated. The last change was 2023. Some Owners kept up with updates. Some didn't. If you would like to check or have Sync updated, chat with the dealer. I believe it'd be free.

Finally, regarding the Ford Pass App itself, several have commented previously how cell phones, tables and computers can often act odd, depending on the Application revision, anti-virus, app rights and ad blockers. Even the cell phone itself. While I've never had a problem, some do, or notice a difference when using a computer versus a phone.

That's a lot. Your primary interest is attempting to get the Ford Pass App to work correctly. I'd continue with that, whatever leads you're tracking now and follow-up on the others (subscriptions, Sync updates, etc.) later. If you're interested in Sync updates, maybe discuss that and the Ford Pass App while at the dealer.

If you do want to forgo the app, delete it and move on, there's a sister site.

https://www.ford.com/support/

In the upper-right of the ^ link, is a icon to log in. Once logged in, this web site gives you the same information, more in several examples, as the Ford Pass App. It always works well on a computer. I have not tried to access it on my cell.

Depending on the situation, your existing Ford Pass username and password might work, negating the need to make an account. And the vehicle might already be displayed, without having to add it.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Skye, I was able to sign in with the username and password already set up on my desktop. With that available now I will not use the app at all. It is still showing I haven’t bought anything yet to earn points but I will work with the dealer on that. As far as service history I have all paperwork from new in hand so I am good there. This now puts me in the “ old school” comfort area I am used to.

My Impression is that the dealers do every thing they can to give you disinformation and no information when possible. I’ve noticed going over my paperwork at different dealerships that often the paperwork is totally incorrect and stating obviously wrong things. More often than Not stating the problems I had or what they did to the car. Also, I noticed my app often has zero information about when I take my car to the dealerships. it’s not just one dealer it’s multiple dealers.
ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU VERIFY THE DETAILS OF YOUR DEALER VISITS. it can come back to bite you in the butt due to you, not having any paperwork or your paperwork being incorrect.
