So I got just replaced my clutch sensor switch and I don't remember if I used to have to press the clutch and the brakes while holding down the push to start button to start it. I checked the 2016's that are in our dealership and I was able to start them with just the clutch pushed in and it would start without me having to press and hold the push to start button. I'm wondering if all 15s are like that or something happened to mine. I'd appreciate it if someone can confirm.

My 15 just push the clutch, just push the start button. Don't need to hold start button, just tap it.

I'm pretty sure that's how mine was too before the whole css fiasco. Not sure what happened but I can't start it unless the brake is pressed as well as holding down the start button. I don't think it's a big deal but it's a bit inconvenient. I searched the forums and it doesn't seem like anyone has had this issue.

That would definitely be a little annoying. I'd prob get that looked at just for the simple reason of the starter engaging and disengaging properly.

I drove the car to work and got gas right before going in. By habit I just pushed in the clutch and pushed the start button without holding it and it started. I headed to work and when I got to the parking lot I did it a few times just to make sure I wasn't imagining things and it looks like it's working properly. I'm gonna try again later tonight to see if it's a problem during a cold start.

Maybe the clutch sensor is recessed more than the previous one, which isnt triggering the switch when you push the clutch in? Maybe the plunger is a tad shorter and isnt triggering the clutch sensor and the force of both pedals being pushed in flexes the pedal assembly just a tiny bit in more, allowing the sensor to trigger?

Don't call me crazy (just yet) for mentioning the above. I had a similar issue that involved the pedal assembly and pedal switches my 2010 Mustang. It was somewhat reverse of your issue though. Anytime I pushed the clutch in, my brake lights would flash quickly. When pushing my clutch in, I found the pedal assembly (that's made of plastic) was flexing just enough to cause the brake light switches plunger to move away from the pedal by a millimeter, thus triggering the brake lights to flash briefly. To fix this, I put a small rubber cap over the switches plunger, effectively making the length of the plunger longer to accommodate for the flexing.

I've only been under the dash of the S550 briefly, but believe the clutch switch is the push in type to trigger. That's the opposite to the brake light switch I described, which was activated when the plunger was allowed to move outward. If the issue continues, see if adding some black tape, cap or other clever item to the end of the clutch pedal switches plunger, then retest. This would at least ensure that the switch is getting pushed in enough.

The clutch sensor is working fine. When I push the clutch in the light turns solid green to let me know that it can be started. It is a push in type to trigger as you said. Kind of weird issue you had with the clutch. I'm sure a lot of people behind you were wondering why you kept pushing your brakes lol.

I did notice that my voltage was around 12V when I first started it and went up and stayed between 13 and 14 once I drove around for a bit. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Haha, the only reason I found out about the flashing was when my dad asked "are you having issues driving your car? Every time I'm behind you. You hit your brakes as you accelerate". I then saw my lights flash that night, when I was backing up and looking through my rear view. Lol, I also could only imagine what everyone else on the road thought for the 4 months I drove it like this.

I believe your voltage should be around 12v on a cold start, then be a little higher while running, since its then running on the alernator and charging.

Owners manual says just clutch is needed. I guess I have always had my foot on the brake too out of habit. I can now say I learned something today.

It looks like it fixed itself? I'm able to start the car with just the clutch and push the start button without holding it. It's odd that it did that. Maybe it was just because I just installed the new clutch sensor? Cueball I'm glad you were able to learn something.
