Noticed that there is some foam padding between the guard and the inner guard today. It's on both sides but I'm not sure what the purpose is but assume it's a sound deadener or to stop vibration, only concern is that it may hold moisture and eventually cause some corrosion issues. Has anyone else seen or heard of this?

You can also see it looking forward at the inner guard with the doors open.
Granted, it is unusual, not something I was used to seeing when I had a crash/customising shop back in the eighties, but may be commonplace now for sound and vibration damping.
The corrosion concern certainly would have been valid in the bad old days of undipped metal used for panels, but the body panels are passivated well these days and shouldn't be a problem unless scratched between the foam and the panel. I would be sure it is not particular to this model of mustang and it has to cope with some pretty crap weather in some countries...but definately unusual.

Good point about corrosion treatment on modern cars Bob, it just looked weird when I saw it.
Congrats on the moderator title too.

My 2005 Toyota Camry has that in the fenders. I believe it's just sound deadening material

It's sound deadening and vibration damping material.

With modern cars there are so many little things which add up to a reduction in NVH, this would be a little thing Ford would have calculated would be required for whatever reason.
