I never got around to posting only because there was nothing spectacular or brag worthy but I guess why not share anyways. Back on the 27th I went to Richmond Dragway with a few friends who asked if I wanted to come. I have never taken a car down a dragstrip, nor do I do street racing so it's just not my expertise in anyways. I am more of a cruisers, backroad-mountain runner. This is also my first RWD car.

Anyways I am completely stock besides a Borla catback exhaust. I am also running 20" wheels with half worn 275 street tires (OHTSU FP8000). It was extremely hot that evening. When we got to the track around 6pm it was 90 degrees. As it got darker the temps dropped a little. I spectated for a while to eventually build the courage since everyone else does this all the time.

I did my first run around 8pm. The temp was around 84 degrees according to dragtimes. My first run I rolled the car through the waterbox but ended up not getting a good burnout to clean off the tires. I tried dumping the clutch in 2nd but failed and just gave them a quick burn on first without trying to look like a complete idiot, LOL.

My second run I again ran them through the waterbox AND had little pebbles stuck all over them because I drove the car through a few spots in the parking area that has gravel (I have no idea why they use gravel at a track). I put the car in first this time, engaged line locked and tried dumping it and realized.... LC was preventing the car from going over 3k RPM... so without sitting there and fooling with it, I just rolled up to the staging lane. Again, wet tires littered with pebbles. The third time I learned my lesson and turned off LC and burned the tires for around 5 seconds to try and clean them off. Trap speed was definitely there that time but my 60' and pretty much 1/8th was still pretty bad. I think my 3rd run being I didn't use LC, I still launched it around 2800-3000rpm. Spun some in first (3.73 gears) and some in 2nd with a little hopp.

Density Altitude: 1761 feet
Relative Density: 94.95 %
Run 1: [email protected], 2.6 60' | 84 degrees
Run 2: [email protected], 2.5 60' | 81 degrees
Run 3: [email protected], 2.7 60' | 81 degrees

Anyways, I didn't let any of the runs hurt my feelings because I really enjoyed it. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular but I didn't want to be an absolute laughing stock since my buddy is a Camaro owner (2002 & a 2010) who is always talking smack about my Mustang (jokingly). I figure I might go out again soon maybe after I get some new tires in the rear. I know a lot of my 60' can't be blamed on the tire but they struggle to even hook on the street.

I don't plan on doing any power mods until drive mod and suspension mods are dialed in to even utilize the power I have. I don't want to make this car a drag runner but it would be nice to occasionally do it. So I hope next time I have some progressive updates.:thumbsup:

Trap speed was definitely on point on that last run! There's definitely a learning curve but you'll get there with more seat time.

I've taken my car to the track once and managed a best of 13.2 @ 110 with a 2.3 60'. My launch technique still sucks but the 3.31s and shitty 235 tires don't help. I turn AdvanceTrac all the way off and don't use launch control. My biggest problem is that tend to lose my nerve and dump the clutch and floor it rather than letting off smoothly and rolling into the throttle. I get some wheel hop sometimes too which worries me (still need to install the CB005 kit I bought). I've been wanting to go back soon but it's been so damn hot here.

Don't worry too much about your times. Everyone has to learn. Have fun with it! It is supposed to be fun. Like anything else, the more you practice the better you will get. It will really help you learn the car. Learn how to feather the clutch and minimize tire spin. adjust your tire pressure (down) to help some with traction. I have not raced in a long time and I am going in a few days with my 2015 Mustang GT for the first time so I will have a learning curve with it too. Keep running and finding ways to improve. And don't forget to have fun!

At some tracks, like the one I go to, there isn't any room to go around the water box so you have no choice.
