Hello all,

Can anyone suggest any decent muscle car experience/track days, preferably in the south?

I'm looking ideally to have a blast around in some classics (Mustang obviously) rather than modern but anything American (v8's) and with a good dose horsepower is good!

A lot of the typical track days on offer seem to be short and sweet. Best I have found is 3 laps in 3 cars, which will probably be half an hours driving at most and I have my heart set on a good hour or two!

Anyway, having trouble finding something a bit more substantial so hoping you guys can help :)

Probably looking at £200 - £400 ish I guess.

Cheers

Think you'll find that's what most experience days consist of, PalmerSport aside of course.

If you want that amount of driving I think you're going to need to look at hire rather than trackdays which would then mean your budget will probably need increasing a bit.

There was a track day at goodwood that had lots of different cars you could pay to use . One was a 60s mustang but I believe that may have stopped now. They also had single seaters . Can't think of the name of it. Someone will know.

Edit - Mithril Racing

My wife got me a classic American car driving experience for Xmas. Doing it beginning of March at Bordon, Hants. You are right it is only three laps per car but can buy additional laps on the day. Will be driving a 60's Mustang, Dodge Charger & Chevy Corvette. Original plan was to do it at Goodwood in February but can't get day off work. Looking forward to it but won't really be long enough.

thanks chaps. I think I know the one you are on about Greg, may well book that one. Didn't know you could book extra laps so that sounds like a winner to me!

Just a word of warning......please ensure you check terms and conditions VERY carefully, and purchase with a credit card!

Many of us in the Owners Club signed up for driving events with a relatively new company called Classic American Muscle, and they offered events at several circuits throughout the UK. Goodwood was the only one several of us wanted to attend....we bought tickets and even booked an overnight stay at the Goodwood Hotel. Things started to go wrong when they announced they wouldn't be running the Goodwood event, but we were welcome to transfer to another circuit. We choose to get our money back........and at that point we realised the company was in trouble and ALL events were being cancelled. We eventually got our money back (including the hotel) but it left a sour taste in our mouths.

The really sad thing was it was run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, but things just didn't work out :(

If I recall correctly, it was http://www.mithril.co.uk/ who "took over" the company.

I do appreciate Mithril have been around for a good number of years, and I've not heard of any issues with them.

So, just a heads up :)

Mithril appear to have ceased trading now too according to their website. Albeit by choice rather than necessity.

Thanks Paul,

I did stumble on that website a couple of years ago and I was desperately trying to find it! Eventually did and like you say they are all closed up now. A real shame because they offered some great packages IIRC. Didnt know Mithril had taken over but also saw they were gone too! Real shame

I did a 3 car experience last year. An Aston, a Lambo and a 1968 GT500.

My little chat with the Mustang guy lasted longer than the drive. 3 30sec laps.

I won't complain as it was a present and the two other super cars were a bit meh compared to getting back in my own GT and driving the 100 miles back home.

Glad I got a go in the GT500. No power steering and un servoed brakes made it interesting.

Means my tally is 1968 experience.

Rentals in LA 1972 and 1994.

And my own 2016.

Just need a Mustang ll, a Fox body and a mid 2000s to complete the deck.

By the way there is a company Brighton way that rents out 60s classics for you to personally drive.
