Hi all,
Seeking a bit of clarification from the learned members here. I have my eye on a Magnaflow or Borla exhaust. If I were to purchase a cat back and cai, would a performance centre install it and do a retune?

If so, can anyone recommend a shop in Western Sydney or North West Sydney/Hills district?

Any idea of estimated cost for the install and tune?

Appreciate any info.

Basically any mechanic can bolt on those exhausts as they are direct fit, same with the CAI.

For the tune, that won't be standard you will need to ask for it, and it will be the majority of the cost. Try and get someone familiar with Mustangs if you can (Im not in Sydney so don't know the companies there) as they will give you a better tune overall from having more experience. You should get some dyno graphs out of that too.

IMO you should use the same people to do the part install and the tune, as then they cant say a part was incorrectly installed or anything.

Its also worth doing all the performance mods you want, then get a tune. Unless one requires it on install.

Castle Hill Performance supplied and fitted my X Force Varex cat back. Good service and prices. They also supplied and fitted and did an install only of some other items on my sons vehicle.
They might offer an install only service if you want something other than X-Force.
Have a look on here as well, worth joining the group if not already on board.

Thanks Hellman.
Thought it was a requirement to immediately have a tune if installing cai and cat back. Obviously not!
I agree with getting the same shop to do everything. Hopefully I'll be forwarded a good recommendation.

Cheers Ian. Might give them a buzz today. Loathe to rejoin FB. Life so much better without!
You completely happy with the Varex? I'm after the deep roar, not the aggressive raspy note.

The Mustang Facebook group is pretty friendly, I have picked up some good tips and met some nice people as well. One of the sponsors is a Borla supplier.
Varex sounds good, I also have AirAid CAI so more of a roar than a rasp, I also like the option to run in "stealth mode" with the valve in the muffler closed. No tune required with the AirAid either.

If you want a deep roar and cai you should speak with blue power performance in Melbourne and see who they recommend up in Sydney, without tune they have had some cars up near 265rwkw with their exhaust and CAI

Hi

You can consider trying any of the 3 Streetfighter Specialist Workshops in Sydney.
As they have done many Mustangs, they would all have no problem fitting and tuning for you.

No tune required with the AirAid either.
I dont think there's a single CAI for the S550 that requires a tune as there's no MAF sensor.

A tune will help it use the increased airflow though, but its probably not worth paying for a tune after just a CAI either.

Why do you think there is no MAF sensor on the mustang?

A tune can make quite a sizeable difference

There are quite a number of CAI's on the market that require a tune.
There most certainly IS a MAF sensor. PMAS even have an intake that comes with a recalibrated MAF for those who want the airflow but don't want to have to tune for it.
A good tune is possibly one of the biggest improvements you can make to the GT, regardless of modifications. Please note, I said "good" tune.

Yes, very happy.
Let's be completely clear on this.
My car is still naturally aspirated. Drove from Mildura to Heathcote (circa 400kms) posted a 12.4 1/4 @120MPH, drove home. No special tyres, no tricks.
60' time was 4/10ths ofF my best BTW.
Meanwhile, a group of motoring journos achieved the same time with a blower from a local tuner.
Dyno numbers are irrelevant when the tune is crap.
If it drives like a car with less kilowatts, it may as well have less kilowatts.

I don't understand Burkey, are you trying to tell me that just slapping a charger on doesn't make it the best? What if I want to be the big dog?

It appears Burkey has one of the most important mods as well, the driver mod, more power does not mean faster if you don't know how to drive. Just slapping the throttle of the mustang isn't going to help it.

A tune makes a massive difference, not all tunes are created equal
