Do you get traffic and weather updates?
Well, you've got me at a disadvantage since my Shelby arrived a month after I deployed.

So, I don't know what I get until I get home to try it out.

Alright guys, I've hit up Ferd reps to see what they can tell us, since after 9 months we're still no where. I'm also currently on leave in the states so I'm going to see what a Ford dealer who actually has had Sync 3 for awhile says. I tried the Italian dealerships but they are still rocking Sync 2 so it wasn't any help.

Ford Service Reps haven't replied to me yet, but I did go to Ford and talk to their SYNC specialist. Ford was called and they said it wasn't possible, we then talked to the guy who installs radios and he said when a new module is installed (for SYNC 2 NOT SYNC 3) he can choose between map packs.

So basically I still have no definitive answer, although he did say the maps are not updated via WiFi. I will be back in Italy soon and will try to play with it more.. there must be a file for it somewhere.

Is SYNC 3 being pushed out in Europe yet??

Dealer has a 2017 Race Red in the garage equipped with Sync 3
A bit disappointing... when I ordered end of last year they told SYNC3 was not coming for at least another year maybe by 2017 and less than 4 months after delivery there is already the 3 ...

nah, from what little I've seen the 2 seems just fine... only thing I'd want from the 3 is the better touch screen and maybe the CarPlay thing... oh yeah, and more updates... I'm fearing that the Sync 2 updates won't be a thing anymore... and probably they'll stop with the maps too :'(

The Sync 2 to Sync 3 upgrade could be interesting, but pretty expensive and we'd need the EU versions I'm guessing...

Exactly. That OEM AutoPartsCo part will get you the US based Sync3 which will need a very expensive software conversion to the EU package plus EU maps to work properly over here. Add that to the cost of the parts, shipping, VAT, import tax and installation and you might as well trade in your entire car for a 2017 for the same price.

You're not alone, a lot of people don't like it (me neither). But the overall system performance, screen responsiveness and software improvements more than make up for it.

I've played with Sync 2 in my friends' SHO, and although I think Sync 2 is prettier... the performance of Sync 3 is much much better. I turned off the daytime mode on Sync 3 so it always has a black background.

As far as changing a car with Sync 2 to Sync 3, it would take a LOT of work, and at that point probably isn't worth the hassle. They're entirely different systems, so many components would need to be swapped out. However, adding something like a different map pack SHOULD be fairly simple--the only problem I'm now thinking of is Ford having to add a new or different satellite receiver as they might have different ones for the US map pack (sats pointed at America only for instance).

I'm back in Italy now and I'm going to see if CarPlay and AndroidAuto are a thing yet.

I darkened mine; you can even set it for 'night' all the time.

Did a little more research and poking around today and came to the following conclusions.

-The SYNC 3 update for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto hasn't been released yet for the MY 16 vehicles, although it's due here soon (checked today). The MY 17 already has the update.

-For those of us with an iPhone, a new USB port must be installed for the CarPlay to work as the MY 16 has USB 2.0 and the new update requires USB 3.0, and the phone must be plugged in to use CarPlay; iPhone stuff...

-To get EU maps to work on a US Spec vehicle, we would need to replace the system with the EU system... costly and I'll just wait for CarPlay and go that route, as the car will go back to America within the next two-three years anyway.

-To upgrade maps on a SYNC 3 equipped vehicle, you're most likely going to have to go to a Ford dealership, pay for the update, and then they (or you) will have to install it via USB as there are no SD card slots on SYNC 3.

If I find any more information, come across updates etc, I'll let you guys know!

I'm afraid they'll not continue our Sync2 Maps... though this is just speculation based on the fact they've released and moved on to Sync3 which uses different tech.

I believe they will continue to release maps for sync 2: there are millions of cars using this system and they will charge you some good money for those maps :)
