The radio frequency could be the AM (medium wave) - in the US stations are 10MHz apart, but in UK & Europe they are 9MHz apart. And DAB has many "different" standards - even the UK is not fully compatible with some parts of Europe apparantly...

Or it might be the frequency for the remote control?

The stepping on the band is different rather than spectrum differences. Same as always need the right radio for the region to pick up the broadcast frequencies
