So I've been doing research on getting an additional display feed onto the headunit, and I'll eventually get something however in the mean time I'm going to putting in the audio side.

So...

Using the existing HU, and removing all the Shaker kit, new door speakers, and building a fibre glass box to go in the spare wheel well.

Kit list will include
2 x 10" subs
6.5" doors + 3.5" and a set of tweeters
3 amps.
1 carputer to monitor OBD and CAN etc.

Would be useful for the display but for now I'll put exporting to a tablet which will be wifi'ed in the car.

Anybody had any experience with changing the system in the ford? I've not done a ford yet to this level, and my E46 wasn't a hard job, just lots of time taking interior out.

Sounds likeit's going to be one hell of a set up, nobody on the UK side (forum at least) has done a sound system swap out, from stock or shaker systems, I assume it'll just be wries and such. The American side maybe of more help ;)!

Yup, I've ordered a stack of molex because one of my main requirements (since growing up just a little), is to not use wire cutting or crimps etc, everything must go in without being destructive.

It also helps my other half works for one of the major car audio manufacturers :p

I'll document it all for the UKers as I go.

The goal is not a hugely thumping system, but something which has clarity and a bit of thump :)

The CAN work might be useful, but that is later on...

As Manders has said, lots of interesting stuff on the US part of the site and companies over there stocking different head units and displays.

Speakers will be infinity reference kit, amps are JBL (I'll upgrade to infinity at a later stage).

Carputer is a custom linux system (of my own), based on a http://www.nexcom.co.uk/Products/mo...pc/in-vehicle-pc/in-vehicle-computer-vtc-1010 (It has obd and can systems already on board, meaning it is a bit cleaner on the install).

Wiring will be refreshed throughout the system, leaving the stock stuff behind in case I ever need to reuse.

I actually quite like the apple carplay stuff, and don't want to loose the OEM look for now, hence I'd prefer to eventually interface directly into it, and make use of the screen both input and output bits. The CAN interface should allow me to then emulate the HU, and have things such as aircon control natively presented.

On my E46, I did a complete install, and loosing the steering wheel buttons was something that ALWAYS bugged me.

A cute touch (although completely pointless :p) would be to have the ability to interface into myColour, and change the dial colour depending on the mode, similar to the i8 comfort (blue) and sports (orange) mode.
