I heard about FordPass at the Detroit auto show stand - but I was surprised to see it in the Google Play Store this morning, so I decided to download it and check it out.

For those that don't know what FordPass is, it's an app that is supposed to combine services for Ford owners, and travel and mobility services for both Ford owners and non-Ford owners.

(screenshots are from the Android version of the app - links to download for Android and iOS are at the official website: www.fordpass.com )

Presently, the app is basically a Ford owner resource and a parking locator. You can see information about your vehicle, your Ford Credit account, call for roadside assistance (the hazard triangle), locate a dealer, and schedule service.

I registered my Mustang, and after a few minutes of a gray base V6, the image changed to a Triple Yellow EB with PP - I'm not sure if the app picked that image because my Mustang is a Triple Yellow EB PP or if that is just blind luck, but I got very excited:

It automatically listed my selling dealer as "My Dealer" (it wasn't the closest dealer, so presumably it looks up the selling dealer from the VIN):

I tried the find parking feature, but (predictably) there aren't any reservable parking spots in suburban Detroit, so I picked Boston from my recent travels to see what parking was on offer:

Not a huge amount, and very expensive, but perhaps the convenience would make it worth it.

Overall I'm pretty impressed! The FordPass website says more features are coming soon, including the ability to participate in car sharing, both reserving other cars to drive when traveling, or (and I'd never do this with the Mustang) putting your own car up for others to rent out. There's also supposedly some rewards system coming that ties into a virtual "FordPay" wallet, which is also not in the app yet.
