thanks for all the input. here s what I got back from a recovery company.

ello Mark,

Thank you for requesting a diminished value estimate from DVCHECK.

Based on our initial findings, your approximate range of diminished value is $7,500 - $9,000. Tennessee can be a challenging state for diminished value claims due to conflicting court cases. Because of the unsettled case law, we can’t offer a money-back guarantee on your claim. We’ve had TN clients win in small claims court and recover the diminished value from the at-fault insurance company after prevailing in court. You may have to take that step on your claim as well if the insurance company refuses to pay your claim.

DVCHECK can provide you with a certified diminished value appraisal, demand letter, and expert guidance throughout the claims process.

We charge a one-time flat fee of $350. For your convenience, we can accept payment over the phone or online. To get started, please click on this link to make payment online and email us the final repair estimate if you have not done so already.

We have built a reputation as the leading diminished value appraisal company in America with an A+ BBB rating and hundreds of 5-star reviews!

Let us know if you have any questions, we’re happy to help

So instead of paying any of these 3rd party companies money to “recover” Dvalue for you - why can’t your own insurance Company recover the value and send you the check? I mean after all, you’re the insured - their customer…. And it should be them doing the leg work or pursuing the recovery from the other party who caused the damages to your property.

His first post said it was a hit and run. His own insurance company repaired it under his uninsured motorist policy. There is no second party insurance involved. He will be seeking DV from his own insurance company if he decides to proceed.
That's my understanding anyway.

Be happy they didn't just total the truck. That seems to be Nationwides policy. My grandmother owns a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix, V6 engine, only 35k miles on it and while she was driving one day a semi backed up and hit the passenger side support pillar by the windshield. Left a very small dent and they wanted to total it. This car hasn't even been driven enough to lose the new car smell! No visits to autoshops for problems, nothing! I know the age of the car is a factor but still, it has a clean V6 in it and perfect body yet Nationwide was like we'll give you $8,500 for it. We could sell it ourselves for more than that! Anyways I took some bondo, filled in the dent, sanded it down to even, and reapplied the paint and besides the weatherstrip being a little messed up its good as new. Point is the insurance company is not your friend, they just want your money and if you have to go the extra mile to get what's yours, then give it a shot and I really hope it works out for you because they get away with so suspect a** s***. Nationwide is NOT on your side!

Hello; While the concept of being made whole after an accident/event might seem to be the way things ought to go, such is not realistic. To me having insurance is for when something really bad happens. Say someone is killed or maimed. Say you crash into a house or office building which results in super high damages.
My second ex-wife was hurt in a collision while riding in a friend's car. Her back was broken. Lots of surgeries. Lots of other expenses. Way beyond my ability to pay. All her medical expenses were covered, and she got a settlement.
I think we can spend more to get an agreed value coverage. But more regular policies are not very useful in less than serious collisions. A neighbor hit a deer on thanksgiving eve. He did good in that he saw and swerved so the deer did not go thru the windshield. Only knocked in the rear passenger door of his SUV. Door still opens and closes. He asked me about reporting to insurance. I asked about the deductible. $1000. Likely cheaper to fix the door.
