I installed a Vortech in November 2016 and had a custom dyno tune done with Diablo software. During the winter I installed a RXT and new flywheel, and the car set until today. I had read about needing to do a crank relearn whenever you take the flywheel off. So, today I took my car to the dealer to have the crank relearn completed using the Ford IDS software. The mechanic has done them before and said it is typically very easy to do. However, it didn't work on my car. He thought it may have something to do with the Diablo tune, but wasn't sure. Prior to going to the dealership I didn't have any engine codes. After leaving the dealership, I know have the P0315 code. I then borrowed a friends SCT tuner and attempted the crank relearn that way. However, it would ask that the car be revved to 4325 3 or 4 times in a row and then say "error maximum attempts exceeded. Restart procedure". I have tried about 10 times, and nothing changes. Anyone else experience this or have ideas on how to resolve the issue?

I had the same issues. I took it to the ford dealer and they could not clear the code. I ended up purchasing an sct tuner and did it myself. I had to put my stock injector back in, take off supercharger belt, hook up stock intake with maf and reload stock tune. It relearned the crank sensor on the first try. Put everything back and reloaded my tune. No check engine light and she's running great! I think it has to do with the aftermarket tune and possibly a non-stock rev limiter setting. I think certain conditions have to be met in order for the crank relearn to be able to be performed. I dont really know for sure, just guessing.

I wanted to update the thread with the solution. I sent the information from CPR Turbo to my tuner. He changed something, I loaded the tune and the crank relearn was successful on the first attempt! I was so worried I was going to have to return the car to stock and reload the stock tune. Thank you for the great tip CPR Turbo!

I don't know the specifics as I'm not a tuner, but obviously something was turned off in the tune that prevented it from learning. All that I know is that it was 100% correctable by tinkering with the custom tune and it didn't waste much of my time with returning the car to stock, reloading stock tune, etc.

Usually when u get that code the tuner has misfire protection turned off which is crazy unless u are using a 2step.No reason to turn that off.
