you could just jam the wire end in with another fuse in the fuse box. That item you linked already has an inline fuse, wouldnt need an add a fuse. I hid my 12/5V power supply in the passenger A pillar

The hardwire kit you linked to will work (you want a 5V output), just make sure your dash cam uses MINI USB instead of MICRO USB. They make versions for each - most dash cams I've come across use MINI USB (which is what your link goes to) but... never know.

I used this for an add-a-fuse but note that the fit is VERY tight yet can pop out pretty easy: https://www.amazon.com/Lumision-SHIPPING-CIRCUIT-FUSE-TAP-TERMINAL/dp/B00OZFNJI6

Having done quite a bit of car audio in the past and fixing people's systems who simply shoved a wire into a fuse circuit for a remote turn on, sometimes ruining the contacts for that fuse where the wire was shoved in OR eventually causing a short, I would not recommend going that route. Not with these itty bitty fuses. The regular sized fuses... yeah, not a big deal to do that since the fuse box was usually much bigger, too.

I'd highly recommend you consider soldering into the cig lighter wiring instead.

Plus I'm pretty sure you can get the necessary power from the rear view mirror, although I've not done this myself. You can use those things that folks use for radar detectors that just have a pin that sticks into the back of the plug that plugs into the rearview mirror. No idea which pin is which but you can test with a test light. Don't know if that's a good idea or not in terms of what power those wires are capable of.

Thanks. I contacted mirror tap last year and they said they didn't have a tap that broke out to USB. Only had one for the phone jack style radar detectors use. Looks like you linked a different brand, which I wasn't aware of. I'd love to mount my radar up there too, although it would be difficult to mute it when I'm near automatic doors and the general areas I travel frequently with non police radar interference.

Yeah I've never been a fan of wire wrapping a factory fuse. I may go with the mirror tap since I see in that last post that someone is making one with a USB conversion on it.

But, when you say solder to the cig lighter wiring, where specifically do you mean? Behind the actual socket? What would be the way to get it out of there and get behind it if so?

Those were not pictures of my car, but I use that tap for my dash cam. I still use the auxiliary power for my radar detector so i can mute it easily.

I got this installed this evening. The s550 videos I watched had different wire colors than mine but I just went with the same holes and it works great. Thanks again.

For anyone else wondering, all you would need there is a 12v to 5v USB converter which you can get off Amazon or eBay for $6. It should come with solid wire, so you just strip it back a bit and stick the wires into the back of the mirror connector in the appropriate pins. The converter has a USB A female plug on the other end so you could power any USB powered device from it. I just tucked the extra wire up under the headliner.
