Cost effective upgrades to shaker system

I feel that the shaker system (401A) is a bit gutless, both in terms of bass from the sub and the mids and highs from the other speakers, and I'd like to make some upgrades. I've tried to navigate the other threads in here but it's a bit overwhelming.

Can anyone recommend some simple and cost effective upgrades to the shaker system? I'm not looking to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars, but if there are simple things like replacing a few speakers or adding an amplifier that will make a big difference, I'm all ears.

I had the 9 speaker system. Changed out the rear deck speakers with JBL GTO 629s. Improved quality and quantity of sound from the rears. $65. I did not have a sub so I added a self powered Rockford Fosgate P300-10 ten inch sub to the trunk.. $165. Drastically improved overall sound quality, volume, filled out the low end and added some much needed punch. I think it sounds good.

Changing out the rear deck speakers sounds easy enough. How would you rate adding the subwoofer? Where did you tap into power and feed from the head unit?

Adding the sub woofer made all the difference. System sounds great. Tapped off of the rear speaker wires to a line out convertor to the sub

Power wire hooked directly to the battery. Grounded it to one of the brackets in the spare tire well.
