I’m bolting mine up to a CV Fab DP and having a local exhaust shop weld on an exhaust flange to the 3” DP so it’s a bolt up affair.
Right, so it's not completely unusable. You have to do stuff to make it work. I'll be interested in your thoughts on the sound. All in all, your configuration will be similar to mine, but with different brands. There was definitely something about the Cobb that intrigued me when I was in the market for a catback, but in the end I wasn't interested at the original price. So, I ended up with a Magnaflow, which I also eventually ended up having to modify to make it work to my liking.

Mine Cobb V2 came with an adapter that bolted up OK to the high flow catted downpipe from Mishimoto. Cobb downpipe didn't fit RHD.

Yes, both the Cobb catback and Mishimoto dp come with adapters to fit the OEM pipe size. So you likely have a 3" dp and a 3" exhaust, with 2-¼" adapters between them, unless your shop did some custom work to eliminate that restriction. And, they're probably not bolted together. The only bolts used are likely connecting the Cobb OEM 2-¼" adapter to the 3" catback. Again, unless custom work was performed.

Sounds plausible. Coincidentally at the mechanic today for a service. These guys are Cobb Platinum Dealer, so I'll ask some questions but it was fitted a few years ago.

I’m going to install my Cobb in my garage tomorrow and then take the DP to my local shop as it will need a 2 bolt flange welded to the 3” adapter pipe. Should be very simple and quick job for them.

Have the MBRP street already. Would definitely get this If I didn't upgrade... Still thinking about it though since the MBRP is not in the same class from a quality perspective.

Here's a photo of the job done by CRD adapting Mishimoto Catted Downpipe to the Cobb V2.

They did good work. 👍🏼 A few years ago, but it looks like yesterday, assuming that's not an old photo!
