Is it true that only Cobb dealers can custom tune with the accessport? I just had a shop tell me that. Maybe I missed that information when I bought mine, but I would have went another route if I had known. Any way for a non dealer to tune my car?

You can tune it yourself if you buy the access tuner pro software. Your tuner could theoretically use it too. However Cobb pro tuners have access to more than you do with the accesstuner software.

The shop was saying that used to be the case up til about a few weeks ago. Now only pro tuners can get the software. And that's what I seem to be finding. I hope someone can show me otherwise. It would be kind of a pain to have to buy the SCT and then sell my Cobb.

*edit - there is one pro tuner in town but he has a bad rep and I have friends who have had bad experiences there, so obviously I don't want to go there.

Thanks. I definitely missed that update info. I've considered an E-tune and might go that route still, I just really wanted a local shop to be able to go with any questions, upgrades, new tunes and whatever.

Good call, had no idea you couldn't get it anymore. On another hand e-tuning works pretty well. Did it with accessport on my last car. Loved the device.

I understand the thought process here, but most shops will charge you for a retune when you add parts, which can start to add up fast. Technology has really come a long way in the past few years when it comes to E-tuning and there are a lot of success stories on this forum.

Adam, for example, is very active on this forum and started multiple Facebook groups to improve his ability to communicate with customers. Other tuners might have something similar, but I cannot speak about them. Adam also provides a very competitive price for lifetime tunes.

Thanks again. Adam was definitely my first choice for an E tune. I'll get in touch with him and see if he wants to be my tuner.

E-tuning is great. Take that route.

You are going to have a hard time finding someone local that has experience with these cars. They aren't like Subaru's, Mitsubishis, Honda's, and GM's. I have tuned basically every vehicle platform under the sun and Ford is completely different. Most tuning shops say they tune it then produce worse results than just an off the shelf tune.

Having someone answer your questions that doesn't actually work on the car or with the car is going to get you the generic answers that apply to basically every other car. Which in the case of the Ford, those do not apply. This is a unique car, a fun car, and a complicated car. Try to stick to the people that focus solely on this car, and other cars like it. (Like myself, and a few others on here, but others don't work on just this vehicle).

Please let me know if you have any questions, I prefer email - [email protected]
