Hello Forum, anyone else experiencing a clicking noise from the engine area on their Mustang? I have a 2020 Ford Mustsng EcoBoost manual drive. I recently purchased the car. I noticed when the hood is open, the car is in neutral and when you rev the engine one time there is a a loud "click" sound. Very noticeable when your standing in front of the engine. No check engine light comes on. It's a two person job because you have to outside at the engine to hear the click. There is about a 2- 3 second delay from the rev to the click sound. I took to Ford Dealetship and the car is still under warranty and tech said it's the turbo by-pass control valve that makes that click sound because the engine is being revved not in drive which Is normal. Ford is saying there is no issue. They checked another EcoBoost on the lot and confirmed the same click.

Any other EcoBoost owners noticed this as well?

I'm sure they are referring to the waste gate. It's a valve that controls the exhaust gas pressure that gets directed to the turbo blades. When you rev the engine in neutral there's no real need for boost and the engine senses this and opens the waste gate dumping the unneeded boost. Since there is a period of time between engine reving up and the turbo building boost (turbo lag) the waste gate activation takes a second or two.
At least that's the way I understand it.

On my '18 I haven't heard any noise but, then again, I have never stood in front of the car while someone else reved it up...
