turtle wax....

Strange... My turtle wax from Walmart works great and lasts. this was a pic I took of the side door of my G8. I had clay barred it and polished it and then proceeded with some good ole turtle wax Ice paste. This picture was after about 2 weeks had passed. No swirls, no blemishes nothing but a mirror shine. I just washed the car and dried it off to make a point to a couple people who were on a different forum giving bad advice on wasting money lol. So I always love when I get a chance to use this as an example to show. Process is more important than the Product. I'm sure some of my Fellow Veterans who actually had to shine boots can attest to. You could use all the fancy "expensive" alternatives you want but in the end if you just use the proper steps and care you didn't need the other stuff.

I don't get the concern over whether the wax was purchased at Walmart. It's not like Walmart sells it's own brand of car care products. They sell everything from the cheap Turtle wax, to the high end, much better products for you car. Just depends on what you bought, not "where" you bought it.
As for the OP'S comments on how the car felt after using the clay bar. That doesn't sound right at all. Did you clay the car before you washed it? I hope not. I never used a clay bar prior to getting my 15 Mustang, but it was really a simple process, and it came out feeling totally smooth, not a blemish on the paint afterwards. Followed by high quality wax. (I didn't do the sealing step. is that bad?)

P.S. Sharp21, I see from the pics that everything seems to have worked out for you on your second attempt. Glad to see that.

I think maybe you overwaxed it. Made it disappear. I don't see a car there my friend.

6" orbital is next on my list.

If not turtle wax what do you guys recommend?
S.
I hope it is an electric orbital, and NOT air powered. Unless you are experienced with an air powered orbital polisher. Those can be very aggressive if you aren't careful.
As for what wax I recommend. I have had the Mustang since march, waxed it twice so far. I used Maguiars Ultimate liquid wax.
I see you are from Houston. I am in Missouri city. If you are ever on Hwy.6, and you see a yellow eco vert., it could be me.

Thanks for all the replies.

I just bought the car so dug into my stockpile of detailing products. Used what I had as I had already spent an extra $1k on stuff for the car...

I'll keep my eyes peeled for that yellow vert!

Your first mistake was claying the car, and then waxing it. Claying is almost bound to mare and degrade your finish, that's almost the point. You need to at least follow up with a polish, preferably a light cut and polish.

So many people throw wax on their cars and expect a great looking smooth finish when the wax isn't even the most important part. The prep before means everything. An awesome prep with cut and polish and a $10 wax/sealant will look and feel 10000x times better than a half-assed or horrible prep with $100+ wax/sealant/coating.

Wal-Mart does not sell "High End" waxes or anything of that nature.

I secretly bought some of that $50,000.00 dollar Predator Wax! LOL! It's just proof of its in the prep and procedure not the product.

Ok. "high end" was probably not the best choice in words. I just meant something better than Turtle Wax.
